How bad does Mendes look right about now?

We all, myself definitely included, came to the defense of Mendes for gassing out after ragdolling and steamrolling McGregor in the first round of their fight. No camp, no notice, he was hunting and drinking beer. He wasn't in shape and had a big weight cut. All of those seemed like valid reasons more than they were excuses, for a poor performance and poor stamina. I mean it happens right?

But then Nate Diaz comes along with no notice whatsoever and pieces Conor up, takes his back and necks that motherfucker.

So how bad does No Notice Nate make Micro Camp Mendes look right now? Or does that make Nate's victory look that much more awesome? Apparently Nate has said that he wasn't in fact training for anything, unless we call drinking shots of tequila on a boat in Cabo training. He was partying on a boat, drinking tequila when he gets the call for the biggest fight of his career... 10 days notice... Nate said that left him 3 days to prepare, considering all the media and shit that had to be done.

Anyone want to weigh in with their perspective on how this makes Mendes look, or how that makes Nate look, by all means do so.

I dont see the two things as being connected in any kind of way. Different fight, different night, different weight class.

You're forgetting one huge difference.

Diaz didn't have to cut weight whereas Mendes did. I'm sure Mendes was huge and coming down that fast might have sapped him.

No correlation there. That being said, Mendes is a very limited striker compared to LWs

this, mendes shouldnt be too ashamed of himself imo :p but he should have absolutely done few things differently!

Takedowns take more energy than jabs.

Mendes was winning the entire fight and got caught by a good left at the end of the round, and Herb stopped it early too, he could have easily lasted 3 more seconds, he was not out at all, but Herb had to do it because its Conor and they need him to win, he would have done the same if Conor dropped Nate too.

also Mendes was injured in that fight, he had a leg injury. Mendes is tiny, UFC says he is 5'6'', but I seen him at UFC fan expo and he is probably 5'4'' in reality. Conor is much bigger than him and Mendes did great considering all these factors.

This.. What the hell is the point of this topic, should be deleted.

I don't see what dots you are connecting. Mendes is a 145er and took the fight on short notice at 145 while injured and gassed. Nate is a 155er and wasn't injured and took the fight at 170. Nate beating Conor doesn't make Mendes look anything, it's unrelated.

The point of the topic is that in this game, you always have to be ready to step up and take every opportunity that comes your way and run with it. TBH, on a personal level I am learning some lessons from it as well.

Something to consider is that Mendes carries more muscle than Nate Diaz.

Either way, it is what it is. Chad doesn't look any worse in defeat because of the Diaz fight, he lost and that's it.

I still think Mendes should be commended for ragdolling Conor for two rounds. He cracked Conor's armor. Diaz just shattered it.

I agree and also i'm not sure if Diaz actually cut any weight for this fight whereas Chad would of for the 145 pound fight .

What hurt Mendes' stock the most was getting clipped by Frankie. That was his chance to come back up and he got floored.

I know he wasn't in a fight camp but didn't Diaz say he was preparing for a triathlon (sp) before the fight?

That comment has some truth to it. As Conor said and I agree, Nate was efficient with his energy. Chad was not. Different styles, different game plans. Funny thing is that Conor WAS efficient with his energy in the Chad fight. I guess by the time he got to the Nate fight he was fully believing his own hype.

Connor wasn't efficient with his energy in the Mendes fight if you ask me. He was doing all of the exact same things--constant power shots. The difference is that Mendes can't fire back efficiently like Diaz can.

Diaz can respond to Connor's power shots with jabs and sneaky hooks at range (super effective and efficient) Mendes can only respond with a blast double or duck under (potentially effective and literally the least efficient attack to rely on).

Mendes gassed because he ate a lot of body shots from Conor. Conor gassed because he at a lot of shots from Nate as well.

Gassing isn't always related to cardio. Sometimes you get an adrenaline dump, and taking punishment also wears you out quickly.

Diaz bros run triathlons for fun. Fucking ridiculous.

There is some truth to coming back too quickly after a KO as well....
