You are correct. Everything gradually went to shit after 9/11. The war, the lies about wmd's and the amount of taxpayer money wasted was a big reason Obama was elected. Most Americans didn't want to keep going down that path with McCain. Little did everyone know...obama would prove to be the worst president the US has ever seen.

Many of the same people who voted Obama...voted for Trump.

It's rather ironic. So many people are missing the forest from the trees to yell, "Nah uh, it was YA'LLs fault!!!"

We can argue about the origins of the current state of divisiveness, but we should all be able to agree that the rise of 24/7 politics TV-- first with Fox, then with CNN-- was a major aggravating factor. As was 24/7 political talk radio before it.

Basically, the entire state of today's affairs can be summarized in two words: outrage porn.

Was it ever this bad before? I don't know. Certainly not in my lifetime. Tensions were obviously higher during the actual Civil War, I'd think, but being in the second most contentious period in American history isn't great either.

I think the difference is that in the Civil War, people generally knew what they were pissed off about and why they were fighting. And it was limited to a handful of fairly concrete issues.

Today, everyone seems pissed off about everything and nothing.

It's not biased it's the simple truth whether you believe it or not. Talk radio, Fox News and politicians like Gingrich not to mention political operatives like Lee Atwater have done tremendous damage to American politics.

Adding to that, Bush has now somehow been transformed into this sort of jolly old man figure who can make you laugh and think. All it took was a leave of absence from the spotlight, a few well written speeches and some of that classic Texan humor. Yet, by virtually all international standards, he's a war criminal.
