Round 2. $1200 checks again

Lets hope the Senate passes most of it. Mcconnell being the man that he is has said concerns for the deficit etc he isnt sure the US needs round 2.

White House is rumored to support 2nd round of checks. But to meet with Senate GOP leaders on adjustments.

"""If this stimulus package becomes law, it would insert an additional $3 trillion into the economy in the ongoing effort to address the outstanding concerns and needs of those most impacted by the pandemic. It would also help to fill state, local and tribal government budget shortfalls.

Key aspects of The Heroes Act:

  • $200 billion for essential workers to get hazard pay.
  • $1 trillion for state, local and tribal governments to help pay “vital workers like first responders, health workers, and teachers” who could be on verge of losing their jobs. Here’s a breakdown of estimated allocations the states and territories would receive.
  • A second stimulus check for Americans in the amount of $1,200 (this would be a one-time payment as with the first stimulus check). However, instead of $500 for children, families would get $1,200 for each household member up to a max of $6,000.
  • $175 billion in housing assistance to help renters and homeowners with rent, mortgage and utility payments.
  • $75 billion for coronavirus testing, tracing and isolation efforts.
  • An extension of the COVID-19 unemployment program providing that the extra $600 per week benefit would last until January 2021 instead of expiring in July 2020 as it currently stands."""

The White House would likely support another round of stimulus checks, two senior administration officials told CNBC on Thursday.

The White House did not provide further comment except to release a statement which said:

"As President Trump has said, we are going to ensure that we take care of all Americans so that we emerge from this challenge healthy, stronger, and with economic prosperity, which is why the White House is focused on pro-growth, middle class tax and regulatory relief."

Don't know how I feel. Short term good but long term I think it will affect me worst

how many checks total are we supposed to be receiving?

I don't really understand the increase of 600 dollars in unemployment. How is it different getting unemployment now than a year ago? Did people on unemployment somehow lose unemployment bennies because of coronavirus? It seems weird that some people are making more money staying home than going to work.

Is the $10k in student loans in there also?

I know the Senate is gonna assholes about everything, but I just want the round 2 of Trumpbucks and the Student loan forgiveness.

Doubt it passes. Moscow Mitch will scrap it and try to write his own shitty bill

Unemployment sucks and has bad effects on the country. If only a few people are unemployment, then the bad effects are so bad. If you suddenly quadruple or even more the number of people who stop making rent, utility, and other debt payments, and who sharply decrease consumer spending, then the snowball really starts rolling in the wrong direction fast.

pay off your own student loans. This is not the type of bill to throw something like that in.

Im curious about the essential worker hazard pay, is that only healthcare workers?

What does "housing assistance" mean? Is that free money for rent payments? How do I qualify? Or will it be only in the form of loans, and only for poor people?

I'm am paying them off, but if Pelosi is gonna give me free money, I'll take it.

It's funny how under normal circumstances, the government tries to penny pinch as much as possible and make people ineligible for aid as much as possible. It's the same in Canada, there's more aid but never to this extent. Now suddenly there's generosity far exceeding anything that happens under normal circumstances. I understand the rationale for it (increase consumer spending -> keep businesses afloat -> keep employees on payroll) but it feels a little weird.

Should be people like cashiers and the like. People who can't afford to quit and stay at home. Janitors and custodians too. The ones who have to sanitize everything you touch.

Gonna be buying an SKS with it and joining my local Socialist Rifle Association.

There are people unemployed now, who would not be able to live on the old unemployment checks, would be my guess.

If it was enough before, why isn't it now? Doesn't make sense.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but dont we need to pay this back next year with tax returns being reduced because of it? So say if you were to get 1800 then that means you would now get 600?
