This thread is pretty amazing in terms of demonstrating confirmation biases.

If it wasn't about partisan vacations, then why hasn't he yelled something like this before when any of the (specifically Democratic) Latinos has been at the podium during a raucous session in the past? The man isn't a freshman. He has been there since 2013. There is no explanation for why he is so unhinged that he made what could be a reputation-destroying taunt after five years. Meanwhile, the timing surrounding the Democratic retreat resonates beyond coincidence in the context of this ongoing shutdown.

Why would he yell Puerto Rico, and not simply Mexico? After all, Mexico is what is traditionally associated with this phrase when deployed as a racial slur, the partisan fight is over the wall, which doesn't keep Puerto Ricans out, who are born American citizens, and the man in question is Mexican. As I've already pointed out, Puerto Rico doesn't have House representation, only a single non-voting rep, and while it's possible a House member is ignorant of that, I find it unlikely.

It's possible the man is racist, and he really lost it, here, but it smells like a trolljob that found its mark in this subforum.

Hey, what a crazy coincidence that someone suddenly had a racist outburt and said "go back to puerto rico" to democrats just days after congressional democrats took off for a lobbyist beach party in Puerto Rico during a shutdown. What a nice gimmick to just cry racism whenever democrats are called out for anything and hope everybody focuses on that and forgets the thing they were just called out for.
