International Hong Kong grounds all flights as protest paralyzes airport. China threatens no mercy.

I think there are already threads on this so not sure where it belongs. Trump said this is between Hong Kong and China.

Today saw the fourth and largest day of airport sit-ins by anti-government protesters in Hong Kong, thousands of whom thronged both terminals at the city's international airport. Nearly 200 flights coming in and out of the city were canceled, and the normally calm and orderly airport descended into chaos.

    Here's the rundown:

    • All flights down: All departing flights were canceled, and more than 70 arriving flights were also stopped. In the early evening, the airport was filled with confused and frustrated travelers who weren't sure if their flights had been canceled or not.
    • Protesters warn travelers: Thousands of protesters in the airport arrival hall warned arriving travelers, "Don't trust the police," and held up images of bloody clashes between protesters and riot police. Some shouted, "Turn back," while others apologized for the inconvenience.
    • Anger at the police: Though the wider protest movement has a range of demands -- including greater democracy -- today's demonstrations seemed focused at the police, who protesters accuse of brutal force and abuse of power.
    • A bloody weekend and bloody summer: Protesters are outraged about last night's violent clashes with the police. One female protester's eye was injured during the dispersal operation -- which became a rallying cry for protesters today. Violence is fast becoming the norm as Hong Kong enters its 11th consecutive week of protests, which first began in June over a now-suspended extradition bill.

China on Monday used the strongest language yet to vilify the participants, with the Cabinet's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office in Beijing saying the protests are "beginning to show the sprouts of terrorism" and constitute an "existential threat" to the population of Hong Kong.

"One must take resolute action toward this violent criminality, showing no leniency or mercy," said a statement from spokesperson Yang Guang. "Hong Kong has reached an inflection point where all those who are concerned about Hong Kong's future must say 'no,' to lawbreakers and 'no' to those engaged in violence."

Yea, I was listening to this on BBC news earlier. Quite scary for the protesters. With the terrorist label, they can be held indefinitely, without being charged. Given China's history, that sounds like living-hell.

I somehow doubt this ends peacefully. China doesn't fuck around, and gives zero fucks what the world thinks about how they operate and deal with this type of shit.

China will do a false flag terror attack, or some big attack, and use that bad the reason for the crackdown.

    Right outta our western playbook

In the global one world government that many want, there will be no allowed revolutions and no allowed change.

Look at the yellow vests, ignored by media.

I’ll bet China skips the false flag and goes straight to the crackdown.

    Right outta the Chinese playbook.

It's only a matter of time before China goes to far and they are in a multi front civil war.
    Hong kong protest
    Muslim reeducation camps
Demonic social credit and monitoring system
    Tibet suppression
    Dissident suppression
Wait until it gets hard to feed people, and then it's over

Can't wait for MNCs HQs to move to SEA. Bunch of HK'ers are already moving to Penang and Johor I believe.

I think you're wrong here. They've already been pretty darn lenient. Now that Trump has ceded them some international good will, it seems that they do care about how the world sees their regime and country.

Just so I'm clear, people are really this upset over the extradition law? Is it really that big of a deal to them? I don't understand why.

HK Island is a pretty jaw dropping place. The actual city area is smaller, more compact and navigable than Manhattan; doesn't have the same architectural historicity or class but did its own thing in a fairly original way to become the archetypal "21st century world city" and carved out arguably the greatest skyline.
