Okay, so Ive decided to stop using my gym's dipping belt and make my own until I buy one. I know the basic equiptment is: 1. weightlifting belt 2. Chain from a hardware store.
3. 2 Carabingers from a rock climbing store.

Does this sound right?? Am I missing anything? Also, how much chain do I need? (2ft)? Any suggestions on how to rig one up? Any help would be much appreciated.

I will let someone else answer your specific question, but I will add this:

For my belt, I just used a very thick rope. It thick enough so that it didn't hurt to much when I loaded it with 60 pounds and did chins, and yet thin enough to fit through the plates I use (standard Olympic size holes, I guess). I just looped it through, tied a knot and threw it around my waist. It worked just as well as a real dipping belt and it was free for me because I found it lying around a long time ago in my gandfather's barn (he had a farm). It might get uncomfortable at maybe 75 pounds or so, but if you are under that, consider just forgetting about a fancy expensive belt and getting a nice thick rope. Get the thickest rope you can, and if it needs to be thicker, wrap something on one part of it (the part that will pull on your lower back/butt).

I dont think 2ft is enough..mines about that long and the damn plates rub against my man area.

On that note.. 2.5 okay? haha

and in addition, with a chain or thick rope, you get a better balance due to plates hanging in line with your body, not in front or too much back which usually happens when using belt...

Thats how I made mine and its worked good for about a year now.

i have the ringside belt, and it's beautiful...however, I like alittle pain during max effort lifts so sometimes I just use a chain.
