Have any of you guys done any home smelting (aluminum, copper, etc.)? More specifically have any of you ever purchased a smelting kit? I'm looking at ones from Devil Forge and Vevor - anyone tried either of these?

do it in your back yard
you will see a big progression equivalent to a large jump in your progress towards your goals

Silver is all I've ever smelted at home.

Had a whole shitload of sterling junk that I found in the ground while metal detecting over the years that I melted down and made a sterling loaf bar out of.

Forget how many ounces it turned out to be, a little over 10 ozt. I think.

Gold, silver a few things......

At work, we used to melt golf, silver, platinum, palladium and a few other metals.....

I’ve done bronze and aluminum.

I do forging and right now and making due putting a crucible in my forge, I need to make a dedicated smelter/foundry just haven’t had time.

I’ll try and do an update later with some other stuff I have smelted and cast.

That's pretty cool, Sherbrah.

Nice!
I do a little pounding of iron myself. Just a passing hobby atm, but moving metal is fun and an art.

I have a few pattern welded/Damascus pieces I’m gonna finally get a chance to work on this weekend.

And hopefully gonna cast a few more things and finish a piece of mokume gane I’ve had sitting too.

This is my first time in a few months I actually have a chance to focus on doing some forging.

I know nothing about it and have no experience, but I worked with this doctor a few years ago who told me one day he would like to start making swords and shit at home. The next thing you know, he has a forge, giant anvil, and all this other shit in his backyard.

I used to and been meaning to get back to doing it. A great hobby n pretty fun..

Got into forging 10 years ago but really got I to it during covid. Not that great but can make a knife an a basic sword. Would love to get good enough to make a samarai sword.

My set up is in my shed 100 yards from house. Only morons do it anywhere near their home ... when I see people down it in their garages I shake head.
