Holly Holm was supposed to be the best boxer in UFC. What do you make of this fight?

What do you think of this?

Apart from the Ronda fight, she didn't look good in those first 3 ones either.
She kept her opponent on the end of her kicks and punches. Used fluid combos. Connected. And didnt get in any trouble. Won. Sounds like she outboxed them to me.

Valentina is such a sleeper, she proved in the 3rd round vs The now champ, that she was a better striker. Holm losing to her doesnt discredit anything....Holm is one of the best strikers in WMMA...but she is at her best when the opponent moves forward, when she has to do that...she does not perform as well.

Valentina if she starts to be more aggressive could very well be the next champ.

I don't know why so many people are surprised a Muay Thai specialist beat a traditional Kickboxer. You people don't know shit.

Holm is still a good boxer but she hasn't fully transitioned her boxing to MMA, watching her fight yesterday I was noticing that most of the punches she was missing would have landed right on the chin with boxing gloves. She just can't lead the dance.

If you think THIS thread is bad, check out the thread Post USADA Holm...

Valentina Shevchenko is a Muay Thai AND Kick Boxing champion
It's not like she was beaten by a Judoka or BJJ girl

Its not like Holly looked completely dominant in striking in any of her previous fights except for the big win over Rousey.

....outside of that win, she looked tentative in the two fights leading up to the title shot, and completely ineffective vs Tate...so it shouldnt shock anyone that other fighters that don't bullrush her with their chin out have more success against her.

Holly Holm was supposed to be the best boxer in UFC, if you look at her boxing career.(She was world boxing champ)

However, she was getting outboxed and counterpunched on her face throughout 5 rounds, and had no answer for it.

Valentina Shevchenko is a Muay Thai fighter.

There weren't even many takedown threats to prevent Holly from using her boxing skill to the full.

If Valentina had a decisive personality with KO power, Holly would've been finished before round 2.

What do you make of this situation?

I think you're under-estimating the takedown threat. Valentina completed at least 3 which is enough of a take down threat to make anyone a little tentative.

Holly got outclassed just like I said she would. Her striking is not anywhere close to Valentina's. If Holly didn't outweigh her by 20 lbs during the fight it would have been even more lopsided because Valentina could have out grappled her too.

Holly's overall MMA skills are severley overrated. She was not the best match-up for Ronda, and also fought her when she was at her most distracted with upcoming movies, media obligations, and hype, making her believe that she was invincible. Holly was less than impressive in every fight except the one with Ronda.

Mousey fought her worst professional fight, Holm fought her best. Holm is an average WMMA fighter. She looked at least one weight class bigger then Valentina. Maybe two. I think Pena and Cat finish her.

I watched some highlights on YT. I didn't see a fighter that was using boxing or really wanted to be in there to be honest.

Valentina was a better fighter tonight. Holly is a great boxer. Watch her first 3 ufc fights. Look at her resume.

Other then Rousey and Tate fight, I use Holm fights to fall asleep. Boring as F.

Valentina is better. Physically Holly seems okay, and i think she's capable of beating Shevchenko and Meisha, but it seems like either her heart's not in it or there's something going on with her mind.

She looked like she was on auto-pilot. After she'd been tagged with counter punches for three rounds she could have tried a different approach, like working for the clinch where she was obviously stronger, but she kept punching the air or 'feinting' as her corner was calling it. Or at least, if she was getting hit coming in, she could have at least committed to her punches and exchanged blows. It was a really bad gameplan, and bad fight IQ.

Oh yeah... over rated as fuck.

Some of you people suck so fucking badly.

I thought it was an awesome fight that showed how far women's MMA has come, they fought like men, have muscles like men. I even thought Holly won the fight, felt like it was tied going into the 5th, and I thought Holly did a little more to win it. Lots of hate for Holly today on sherdog, I did watch it at a bar with no sound so I'm very curious to see how much Rogan was building up V and taking down Holly. There's not going to be a dominant champ at 135 for at least a few years, it's all very even, which is good for me.

I think this fight showed Holly at her most aggressive. Holly tried to let loose in this fight but it was hard to do because she kept getting countered with the overhand right, followed by a leg kick. This was a straight up striking match and Holly got outclassed by someone with better striking than her. It's really that simple. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind who they best striker in the division is now - it's Valentina. Nunes and Holly are tied for a distant 2nd.

Holly seems better as a counter puncher, when she has to chase her opponent down she doesn't look nearly as good.
