Not saying her win wasn't legit but Holly has glaring holes in her ground game. It's unfortunate but in women's MMA, grappling is a lot more effective than striking because women hit softer. They are also weaker for their weight so it's harder to get out of bad positions.

the difference is Ronda only takes opponents down using her judo throw which requires her to be in the clinch. Misha goes for traditional take downs, deep doubles and singles, which doesn't require her to eat punches on the way in like Ronda did

Rousey didn't decide to strike she couldn't get Holm down. Rousey is a Judoka that means she goes for upper body throws, Holm can defend those all day. Tate has Wrestling which means double and single legs Holm defended those 99% of the time but Tate took advantage of the 1% and won.

Ronda really didn't "decide" to strike, it was the only real way she had to close distance. Miesha can shoot, Ronda can't and or doesn't. I assume can't because of her knees.

But yes, as I've said before, the Holm fight was closer than it appeared at the time, at least in the first round. Ronda did get her to the ground at one point and just as easily could have walked away with a sub, but didn't. Rousey's ground game isn't about control, though, and I think to tap out Holm you need to be slow like that and work on position because she's really athletic and can scramble well. I'm not sure Rousey has the patience to take the back, although I do think she has the patience and skills to get full mount. GNP seems more likely to me than sub.
