I like Holly Holm and have rooted for her for years but it seems like she is incredibly one dimensional in her attack and never learns her lesson.

If you watch her fights, it seems like she has one gameplan. Rush forward with a left, if it connects, throw a right for a 1-2 combo and then exit. Repeat. If you get into a clinch, push your opponent to the cage and exit when you get a chance. Throw the occasional high kick.

That's it. That's Holly Holm. If you train for that, you know exactly what to expect. Her minimal output costs her rounds and every time she rushes in, she gets countered.

Where's your leg kicks? Jabs? Takedowns? Body shots? How have you been fighting for this long now, lost 3 fights and almost lost a 4th (Pennington) by having the same attack?

Such a frustrating fighter to watch.

Shhhhh...people are going to flame you but it’s true

Holm is a one trick pony..but Ronda is the most hated person to ever compete in the octagon..so she is the only one trick pony in existence.

Ronda was not one dimensional, she just had bad striking defense.

While I agree with you, exactly how is for example Cyborg better?

They clinched a dozen times last night and how many takedowns did Cyborg go for? Cyborg headhunts the entire fight, doesn't go for takedowns, definitely has no interest in rolling on the ground seeking subs despite having a "BJJ black belt"

Cyborg is just as one dimensional as Holm, Rousey etc. Let's face it, WMMA fighters are not evolved enough yet to be mutli disciplined.

Boxing and MMA really do not mix. Floyd could have tried MMA when he was young and got out struck like Holly has. It's so different. Holly worked hard but never put together a full striking game..

Amanda Nunes

Valentina Shevchenko

Jessica Andrade

Claudia Gadelha

etc.

She basically always throws the one-two's, sometimes followed by a high kick.

Can't disagree with you.

She is also 36 and was already well past her prime when she retired from boxing which is something MMA fans seem to just ignore. She is however a much better all round athlete than someone like Ronda Rousey.

Lol really...

You really want to go down this road?

Those are great examples of fighters strong in one discipline, not so much in others.

Agree with the first part, disagree with the second.

WAR3

You're right. Holly has 3 repeatedly used tools on the feet: left straight, left-right-left straights, straight punch to left high kick. She becomes easy to read after a round or two. Very little inside boxing skills along with next to no head movement, and for an outside fighter she lacks a jab.

I think you're confusing one dimensional skill sets and preferences. Cyborg is very much NOT one dimensional as far as her skills go. She can fight well anywhere the fight goes. She is however one dimensional in her tactics. But that being said, if she ended up in forced grappling exchanges she's going to more than hold her own. A true 1 dimensional fighter is a fish out of water outside of their prefferred avenue of fighting. Holm however does seem more of a traditional 1 dimension. As was Rousey, sure she could lean into a punch but her technique was awful and her last 2 appearances showed it.

While I agree with you, maybe people are expecting too much. Both Holly and Cyborg were strikers, so the fight did not went to the mat, who's surprised? Were any of you expecting a takedown followed by a sub attempt?

Yeah, they might be one dimensional, but that's not Holly vs. Cyborg that is going to show us that, they were both happy exchanging their punches and Cyborg took the better part of the deal.

Look at the judge's cards, it was razor sharp close

It was frustrating to watch. Holly coulda easily won, cause Cyborg is the one dimentional queen, just come forward and bang! , I thought Holly would wear her down. I actually think Holly gassed. Not one knockdown or takedown in that fight. It was there for Holly to take! I bet on her so I have reason to be frustrated.

I'm not sure if you're discording or agreeing with me, still, according to most people those cards reflected a different fight than the one we saw, right?

Yeah, I should've quoted only "they were both happy exchanging their punches and Cyborg took the better part of the deal."
