I have a gaping hole in my game that I get lost in. Please provide some direction - (BB,BR prefered)

I know this is a bad position to get into in the first place but:

I am on the bottom of a shallow, hipped down half guard and have lost the underhook or worse have the far collar under my shoulder and behind my neck.

What are my options?

You can either continue to play flat, or attempt to pummel back for that underhook and work from there.

There is a wealth of information on these options here:

The Greatest Half Guard Thread Ever

I apologize for not having a direct "use A B and C" answer, mainly because your situation calls for much more than that. It's like asking "I'm stuck under side control - what do I do?" Give a scan of that thread and let us know if anything seems familiar / you've given that a try / this worked / that didn't work and go from there. Hope this helps!

if the guy gets the collar snaked, I tend to go to north south, I feel like I at least have a chance to scramble or get to all fours. I feel like Im wasting alot of energy just pummeling and fighting to get back the underhook Plus if its the collar under your shoulder that is not an option. I always do it anyway but it jsut wears you out while the other guy isnt expending anything just lying on you. Just wondering if anyone has anything tricky they use in this position on someone who really knows how to hold the position. Its one of those places that if you end up in this position with an advanced guy you just feel totally screwed and know your getting passed.

There is something really good on someone's blog (Aesopian?) for when you get flattened and don't have an underhook.

I'll try and find it. It's a way to get one butterfly hook in and then go from there into butterfly guard.

Here is that sweep from Aesopian. Works ok for me, but I have trouble hitting it against heavier partners.
