This is my personal all-time favorite fighter, here's the whys:

- He was mean.
- He talked smack.
- He was ghetto.
- He had some kind of chin. People with 1-punch KO power couldn't even hurt him. When he was hit, it only pissed him off and made him fight harder.
- He was a buzz saw. When he started letting loose there was no stopping him.
- Beneath all of that he wasn't a bad guy.

He was probably the best Junior Welterweight ever, or at least of his generation. He only lost once and at the time of that loss he was battling cocaine addiction and basically having one eye. And he KO'd 3 more guys after that before he retired.

Record at retirement: 39-1, 35 KO's.

Enjoy:

Jesus Christ man and you box?

Okay. It's REQUIRED that you watch the fight with Cervantes, and above all the fights with Arguello. The Arguello fights were pivotal in the 80's. Alexis Arguello of course one of the best punchers ever to put on gloves...when Sugar Ray Leonard moved up in weight Arguello was the one big name that would fight Pryor. Arguello having already been a 3-time World Champion. The LAST thing everyone expected was what actually happened.

P.S. - Yes that is Tommy Hearns Pryor is fighting and beating in the Amateurs. Had he not lost a controversial decision to Howard Davis, he would have had Howard's place on the Olympic Team that featured Leonard and the Spinks brothers.

Interesting footnote, Pryor took a job for Davis as a sparring partner when Davis went Pro and got fired for beating Davis up in sparring.

I am obsessed with MMA and don't train, and I train boxing 10+ hours weekly and almost never watch boxing.
The Hatton fight with the De la Hoya replay is the only boxing event I've seen in the past year.
Recently I've increased my interest in boxing videos via free internet video, using boxrec as a guide, and I've also started putting in a little time with a grappling club.

There is definitely a balancing of hobbies and interests.

yeh! now thats wat fighting is about! thanks kk, id heard of this guy but never known anything about him. i loved that knockdown where he rolled and got up to charge his opponent. i wanna do shit like that:)

Holy shit thanks KK! I fucking love the Hawk.

He fought like a crack addict, wich I think he was, now his brain is mush.

He did crack, yes. But no, his brain is not mush. He's actually still very articulate and coherent, but basically blind in one eye (retinal detachment).

If you think otherwise I can post a clip of him talking as an older man so you can see.

For those who want to see Pryor live in-action and what it's like to fight him full-speed.

What's scary about guys like Pryor is that you have to basically stab him to keep him off of you. But he doesn't just hug and clinch. He stands just far enough to pummel you no matter what you do.

And against Cervantes, who was an VERY Elite fighter, that's what won him the WBA Light Welterweight Title.

So I log onto youtube today and this is in my mailbox:

LiuJin --
This video is fantastic! My name is Frankie Pryor and I am Aaron Pryor's wife. I know you probably don't believe me, but you can visit our website at www.hawktime.com and contact us directly through the e-mail address listed on the contact page ([email protected]) to verify that you are in fact talking to Aaron Pryor & his wife, Frankie. I would love to get a copy of this video and we would be willing to trade an autographed photo from Aaron Pryor. If possible, we would like to communicate with you to work something out. About once a month I sit down and Google Aaron's name and look for interesting memorabilia items and your video came up. It sure caught my attention. When I find something interesting, I like to try and work out a deal so that we can add to our personal memorabilia collection. Hope we can work something out. Thanks so much, Frankie Pryor for Aaron 'The Hawk' Pryor.

No, Leonard moved out of the JWW class when Pryor was beating the War Drum.
