Sorry for the Brag post, but none of my friends do BJJ so telling them just gets me dumb looks of confusion.

I'm a 1 stripe white, been rolling about 6 months. First round of open mat I went with a Purple I've never rolled with before. He was about to break my closed guard with his knee on my butt. He was bigger and stronger than me, and a purple, so I knew he was going to get it and I had to do something to avoid giving up the pass. Everything slowed down and clicked and I saw exactly what I needed to do. I opened my guard, switched to my left him, framed on his hips with my right knee/shin, trapped his left tri with an overhook, and executed a totally smooth scissor sweep to mount, didn't have to muscle it at all. Honestly I was shocked when it happened.

I'd love to say I was able to finish from there, but he had really good defense and was able to opa his way out about a minute later.

Either way it felt awesome, I've been rolling with Blues and Purples as much as possible lately to prepare for a comp in a couple weeks and I've been getting my ass kicked every night. So to actually hit a technique really made me feel good.

Wow. When are you competing in the Mundials? Have you had a chance to roll with Todd yet?

I swept a one stripe white belt the other day. Consider that purple belt avenged.

In years to come people will make pilgrimages to your residence bringing gifts of colesaw in your honour.

Fuck. Give this man his black belt already.

OP i was going to go easy and let newer folks work on the limited techniques they know, but thanks to your post I'm going to just completely wreck all blue and white belts tonight in class.

Dude I was pumped the first time I had success against a purple too.

I know. It's kind of a big deal. If you talk about it with your real friends they won't know why it's tough. If you talk about it with your Jiu Jitsu friends it will look bad.

Talking about it on Sherdog is really the only good optin.

Totally, you need some anonymity to be able to share your excitement without seeming like a douche.

The best part about doing well against a purple, is it overcomes the mental block that they're undefeatable. Once a white or blue has one really good roll against me I know from then on out every roll will be tough

I dont think that there is an ego problem here. Sure some people up thread might be busting your chops, but that is what the internet is for (well that and porn). It does feel good when moves actually work, its even better when we hit it on a higher rank. A lot of things could go into that sweep working. Maybe he was working on a new guard pass, maybe he was working on surviving bad positions? who knows? I dont think that means the purple elt sucks or thathis bjj is crap. Each situation can only be understood and celbrated for what did happen. Good work on the scissor sweep. Keep working it till it is a fine tuned death machine.
