I was watching the UFC 95 countdown show and Diego said that Stevenson was a white belt because he didnt hip escape when Florian had him mounted and was beating the crap outta him. How hard is it to hit the hip escape in mma? Its one thing to do it in a tourney but in a real fight are you better off trying the upa? Thoughts?

Bridging out of a full mount is hard if the guy on top knows what hes doing.

Everything changes once you get blasted in the head from mount with flush strikes.

Yeah, I'd say that is pretty unfair of Diego to say. It's just trash talk though. Joe's ground game is good and we know Kenny is no slouch on the ground. :icon_chee

Diego must not have watched joe fight BJ, because he hip escaped time after time against BJ,maybe the best display of the hip escape in recent memory.

i think it was unfair for diego to say that also but only because kenflo has a dominant mount... but you see hip escapes all the time in mma,bj used it to recover guard on gsp several times

The only mount escape I use is upa to hip escape, in combination.

Upa gets their weight up and stops the punches from landing.

You use that space to hip escape.

It's the only mount escape you'll ever need.

+1

I remember thinking the upa was the best way, and asking my instructor for self defense/vale tudo why would i bother with the hip escape, then he paired me up with a guy 50lbs heavier than me and 6" taller, i couldn't upa him off, but i could upa/hip escape to guard.

I think the upa seems more effective in modern mma because of the weight class' and fighters being the same size, but going against someone bigger, the hip escape is golden

To put it differently, upa gets the blue belts off of you, hip escape also gets the blue belts off you, but hip escape + upa gets the black belts off you.

Good shit. I am never going to fight I was just wonderin what peeps thought thanx
