Smith lost his last fight vs Ankalaev and was going to be fighting down the ranks vs Jamahal Hill before the fight got canceled. But now, because circumstances elevated Hill to a title shot, Smith should also get the opportunity to fight a much more prestigious match?

Really doubt it happens. UFC apparently wasn't very happy Smith missed weight as the backup. Old man Glover could've thrown his back out on fight day (see Whittaker vs Gastelum @ UFC 234) and the main event would've been screwed because of Smith. He should be fighting Johnny Walker next imo.

But he did say he would fight Pereira or Jiri. No one in the UFC has even uttered a word about Ank or Jan since their draw. I wonder what the UFC's plans are with those two.

The whole thing is fucked up. Jiri being able to fight 4-5 months from now would be the best solution I think. Rematch Ankalaev/Jan for next TS. I thiink that’s about the most fair scenario. But we don’t actually know if Jiri will be ready. And with the UFC. You never know what to expect.

But Smith getting a TS, is too ridiculous to even contemplate.
