I was watching a UFC Reloaded of UFC 209 and was really struck by the stark contrast between the exciting action of the co main (Vanata-Teymur) and the stunning dullness of the main event (Woodley-Thompson II).

This got me wondering: what main event was the biggest anticlimax ever — not only in terms of the bout itself and how much it may have disappointed expectations, but also because of how pumped up the crowd had gotten from the great fight just before it? Sages of Sherdog, what say you?

Damn super specific. Off the top of my head I'm stumped. All ufc events are starting to run together in my head. Too hard to remember a great co-main with a boring main.

That's low to high, the reverse of what I was asking, but definitely a huge mood swing!

Yeah I guess I should've said just any two adjacent fights...but I was envisioning how everything is supposed to lead up to the Main Event. I imagined a crowd psyched up by an amazing comain, like a drumroll introducing the star of the show. And then....fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. With nothing after it to soften the blow, only a dispirited trudge out to the parking lot. The ultimate Sad Trombone finish.

How is 2 lay and pray decisions better than a first round destruction? This isn't it.

UFC 76: Knockout, which ended with zero KO finishes. I also don’t remember Liddell vs Jardine being all that great after Forrest tapped Shogun.

    pretty much..

GSP/Diaz was co-mained by Hendricks/Condit which was actually a "fight" so that might qualify too.

GSP/Diaz was pretty much just one man successfully nullifying another man without doing any significant offense.

    UFC 129:
Great Co Main with lots of drama and action with Jose Aldo beating Hominick to a pulp and then some only for Hominick to almost mount a comeback on a tired Aldo in fifth. Then the main event...Jab and eye poke fest between GSP and Jake Shields

EDIT: GSP cards looking like an easy target for this thread

I don't have an example, but I like the way you painted the picture here.

Especially this: "And then....fuuuuuuuuuuuuck". I can hear it in my head now.
