So i've been doing martial arts (jiujitsu & muay thai) for a little over half a year now and i need help with my high kicks. Everytime i try to do a high kick i get a sharp pain in my hip, does anyone else have this problem or do you guys know any stretches that target the hip area.

Are you just inflexible?

If not, go see your doctor

wow your badass you're probably owning every 1 in your gym ,that speed is incredible with that kind of muscle m ass.

Teach me some UFC.

lol that was to the guy with video.

Get Bill "Superfoot" Wallace's book "The Perfect Kick" and the one on stretching. He'll have your legs stretching every which way with his exercises!

stretch stretch stretch some more, you can never be loose enough to unleash a high-kick.

I used to have pains in the femur head (where the femur connects with the hip bone) after high kicking without proper stretching/warming up. Maybe you have the same problem. Warm up and stretch a lot, and kick gradually higher.

You want to do a couple stretches. One is essentially trying to do the splits on your knees, so with your legs bent. keeping your foot directly behind your knee. remember to keep the foot behind the knee or the stretch isnt effective... they should not be in toward eachother.

The other is a yoga pigeon pose. Very perfect for male hip flexibility issues. If you need help with this one there are a lot of videos on youtube.

And the last is an easy stretch for the front splits that helps kickboxers keep their legs straight and high when chambering. I didn't have a lot of room so try to lunge as deep as possible.

Sorry the pics aren't better but I thought they would at least give you the right idea.

So i've been doing muay thai for about a year now and i still can't do high kicks! Once i get to a certain point with my leg i get a sharp pain in my hip. Does anyone else have/had this problem and/or have any advice!?

Why not ask the guy that trains you? I'm sure he would have a better answer than anyone on here.

Get your hips checked out.

Stretching and isometrics

then more stretching

and then some more

Also, put this in the stand up forum

Didn't you already make a thread about this where someone told you to rub poop on your thighs? I thought that was that.

Stand-up forum would be best, and stretch constantly, keep practicing, and if it continues, have your hips checked out

also, if you fail to turn your base foot over properly, your hips won't turn over, reducing speed and power and causing pain at times

your instructor should be showing this
