High heart rate +200

See a doctor if your reading agrees with the machien like you said. This could be indicative of a deeper problem that we aren't even able to guess at. But heart rates that high are not a good sign.

your heart rate was not at 240. you misread it...

but it sounds like you have tachycardia...

go see a doctor...

Your resting heart rate is not high. It is normal. Normal is anywhere between 60 to 100 beats per minute.

You might want to re-check your heart rate during exercise. I doubt it's 240.

Interesting fact, when I took my first aid course a while back we were informed NOT to take the carotid pulse with the thumb because the thumb has it's own pulse. If you're doing it this way you may be counting extra beats from your thumb as well. Another thing, I find it a tad difficult to check my pulse when I'm breathing really hard.

Very good points.

There has to be an error with how you're reading your HR if it's 240, especially at your height and weight. If you're a member of a gym, ask one of the trainers to help you out. You have a fairly average resting HR, so I'm not sure a visit to the doctor is in order until you can get an accurate reading while working out. My guess is that you'll be under 200.

After getting an accurate reading, if your HR is still 240, see a doctor...soon.

Yeah, I learned that too. I made the same mistakes before, counting both the in and out of the valve once and counting the pulse of my thumb as well. I put my index finger on my wrist and get a good pulse now though.

Your heart rate could be that high if you were on some crazy drugs and doing sprints, or had something seriously wrong. 240 is crazy high though, crazy high. Maybe schedule a physical and have a nurse check your pulse for you just to make sure you are not messing up the count.

take it from a paramedic. if your heart rate touches 200 at even the most rigorous exercise, go see a doctor. no way the heart can properly perfuse at that rate

Normal values for resting heart rate:

newborn infants; 100 to 160 beats per minute
children 1 to 10 years; 70 to 120 beats per minute
children over 10 and adults; 60 to 100 beats per minute
well-trained athletes; 40 to 60 beats per minute

personally mine hovers around 50-60, but im not sure if thats from years of drug abuse when i was younger or because im fit these days.

Yes because weed is the only drug there is and all other drugs have exactly the same effects as weed. How could we have been so foolish?

nah im not talking about weed i doubt that affects your heart. But too much meth, coke, e etc fuck your heart for sure and a side effect is an unhealthy low heart rate.

Well, weed put a lot of tar in the lungs, probably as much if not more than tobacco.
