So, I've posted in these forums numerous times. I consider myself a grappler because I wrestle and do judo, and I dabbled in BJJ. But I'm also a purple belt in shotokan karate, and I've also dabbled in muay thai. And I've done two classes of boxing, but since I can't get around that easily until about 6:30, when it's too late, I haven't gone in a while. What I'm trying to do is get better at striking so I don't get KTFO'd, because I also happen to have a glass jaw.
So far, upon the advice of one angry sherdogger, I went to the thread "The Magical Jabs" and learned how to do a proper jab, and I studied BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk like crazy to burn the technique into my head, then I got a pair of boxing gloves and drilled it over and over and over again every night. And now I dare say it's my best punch, but now I want to learn how to follow up on it without getting my head knocked off, cuz my karate partners are pretty lethal with their kicks and I don't want to fall on the linoleum. Keep in mind, my goal is to get inside where I can change levels and shoot if I were to engage in an MMA bout, because that's essentially what we do at my dojo. So basically, what I'm asking is, what can I drill so that I can follow up on my jab in any real world application. I have a pretty good idea of what you guys'll say. That I need someone to hold a pair of mitts for me. The problem is, I don't have mitts, or anyone competent enough to hold my mitts for me except probably my grandpa who used to box, but he's 180 pounds and I'm a heavyweight with some serious power, so he might be too frail if I go hard, and in my opinion, if you don't give it your all, you might as well not try.
Sorry if it's wall of texty. So again, I ask, what can I do?
