Let me start by just letting you know where I stand on Georges as a whole package.
I don't hate Georges, I simply am bored to death by Georges. I'm not a fan, but I do respect skill.
He has a very bland personality which has never drawn me in. He always says "the right thing" and just strikes me as a fake "nice guy". He may very well be a very nice person, but anyone who seems nice and perfect all the time, simply is lying.
I have a hard time remembering him ever really selling a fight to the public well. He was always Mr. Canada, and that's where his following was. Lack of personality and humor for me.
The guy is a fantastic martial artist, but that isn't synonymous with being a entertaining fighter. He has amazing wrestling skills which has allowed him to cruise through the tail end of his career, taking very little "real" damage, whilst not exactly handing much out. He's the true example of a "point-fighter". I always thought he could do more, to use an NFL analogy he always felt like the guy who'd just kick a field goal on 4th and 1, and would never go that extra mile for a finish.
Now, he's retired.
It annoyed me the way he left because he once again was "Mr. Clean-Cut" who rode off into the sunset, with a near perfect run and the belt. He lost to Johny, simple as - close fight thought.
I'll say something which will annoy all you GSP fanboys, but if you're looking for honesty I must say it.
He just comes off as Lance Armstrong-ish to me. The guy who is the babyface for his sport, who clearly has a darkside. He was friends, and supported Jimmy Cournoyer a convicted Drug Trafficker. He was the sole-reason why the greasing rules were changed in UFC bouts because of his antics against Penn. Of course there is the other little thing of retiring after one USADA fight but hey, only speculation!
I don't want him back.
If he comes back I'm just cheering for him to lose to Lawler, because everyone thinks that Robbie wouldn't punch him unconscious - I would love to see all your faces when that happens. I also would favor Woodley, MacDonald over 34 year old semi-retired Georges. You had your run Georges, let it be.
The MMA gods are cruel Georges, they'll have you go out in a bad way if you cross them. Don't come back!
He beat the game, he left with a belt and with a pocket full of cash.
So which Sherdoggers want him back and why?
