And yeah, for those who don't know yet, he was cut, along with Mike Ricci.

Okami is a specialist, obviously if you put him against a well rounded guy like Souza he will be creamed, Okami might have wrestling that is a little better, but not better enough to control Jacare on the ground. Okami is basically like a slightly bigger Jake Shields, a journeyman with heart and slightly good at everything.

If you're going to cut Okami after ONE LOSS, it is only fair to cut all the other journeymen who probably aren't good enough to ever be champs but can still put on a show and or dominate when applicable. Cut Nate Diaz, cut Shields, cut Sonnen, cut Te Huna, cut Josh Thomson, cut Meisha Tate while you're at it.

I mean really, I can think of 20 or 30 guys currently in the UFC doing worse, or with just a worse skillset than Okami. Dumb move and totally unwarranted.

If a guy's making more than he deserves, he should be cut. There's probably a lot of negotiation going on behind the scene between Okami's managers and the UFC and apparently they did not manage to reach an agreement.

Its only because Okami is still dangerous enough to derail Dana's up and coming hype trains.

I guess the UFC is no longer only the strongest survives.

Belcher and Lombard....I think Dana cant ris more guys get beat by Okami. The thing is he would more than likely beat Bisping as well.

Im GLAD Okami's gone. His fights are more boring than watching paint dry. I hope they release Carmont too.

DW: Okami's career is on the way down

Okami is very talented but I'm not going to miss him.

Journeyman is a pretty strong description for a fighter like Okami.

He's always been ridiculously underpaid and just recently got a new decent contract after 7 years in the UFC (80 some grand if memory serves me right). Guess the UFC felt he was more worth their time when he was working for peanuts so decided to "send him back to China or whatever". You got to love the UFC business model.

well... with okami and roger on the market... Khalidov's december fight b(he doesnt have an opponent yet) is getting veeeeery interesting :)

I'm glad he's gone. First Fitch, now Okami...I hope the human blankets get the message.

From the thread title I was expecting some solid arguments as to why Okami shouldn't be cut. I clicked the link and wow, I am disappointed.

Your arguments for why Okami shouldn't be cut;

1. He gets creamed by well-rounded guys.

2. He fights like Jake Shields (trust me, this isn't a good thing)

3. Other, more exciting fighters like Diaz, Sonnen and Josh Thompson should be cut AHEAD of Okami ....

Your arguments suck. 0/10.

Jab fests and grapple fucks are not fun to watch when the guy performing them is devoid of any real excitement, At least Georges won a belt and had some good fights before playing it safe.

He'll be back, they were likely over paying for him and he is no longer the token Asian.

I didn't agree at first but now I see this as a good thing.

It can serve as a warning for all the guys who still didn't get it after Fitch was cut.

Okami isn't marketable. White has already made it clear he no longer tolerates fighters who aren't exciting. And Okami didn't even have the success of Fitch, who was higher ranked when he was cut. Rankings and record don't matter if you're not exciting. Boring fighters waste UFC money.

The thing is, whether you like someone's fighting style or not should in no way be the number one reason to cut him. Cutting a top 10 fighter after one loss, coming off a 3 fight win streak while other "more exciting" fighters can amass loss after loss makes the UFC look like a joke and not like a legitimate organization. I mean in what other sport do you see effective, yet boring athletes get shafted in favor of less effective yet exciting athletes?
