Help with my brothers diet, this is a tough one

Ok here it is, my brother is nineteen years old, I asked him to come to the gym with me because he doesn't do shit and is real skinny. Well I got him coming with me like 2-3 times a week right now and I am working him out hard. Here is the problem, I think he has like a mental blockage with food or some problem similar like that. I am not kidding he only eats like five things here is the list its horrible; Burger King chicken tenders and fries, hersheys chocolate bars, lays potato chips, bread, and french fries. Sometimes he eats dominoes pizza but if its slightly burned or looks strange he wont eat it. He eats no fruits, no vegetables, no real prtoteins (chickent tenders is his). I have tried to make him eat different things and he puts it in his mouth says it tastes like shit and throws it out. This is crazy because im concerned for his health long term and his social status, you know how dumb he looks when we go out to eat as a family or something and he orders french fries only, not only that but he orders one eats it and then orders another order because he cant eat it cold. I know what the first reaction is, beat his ass, yeah ive tried beating stuff into him but he is hard headed like me, I did searches for this type of stuff online and get nothing? Anybody have any solution or has had a similar problem, not only that but you would think he would be a fat ass by now eating like that but he is normal to skinny making it all the worse because he doesn't see his outside as unhealthy.

Let him do whatever he wants. Is this an MMA gym? Once he gets his ass kicked and gases quick, then he'll probably start listening. If not, then let him be.

I've been around people who have this issue and I don't know what to tell you. It's about the most frustrating, embarrassing, and confusing thing I've run into. I once knew a girl who would only eat McDonald's because she said she had a sensitive stomach that wouldn't handle anything else :icon_conf. Nevermind the fact her stomach was undoubtedly sensitive because she ate at McDonald's all the time.

It's tough to know what will motivate him. You could try to bargain with him. Tell him to try your way of eating for at least a month and if he doesn't feel better and look better he can always go back to the shitty way of eating.

 

No he doesn't try any new foods, everything he tries he says it tastes bad and throws it out, its not because of the workout its because I want him to also be normal, what chick is he going to take on a date and then only order fries at the establishment, he goes to like a banquet or something and only eats the bread? come on, he goes to a buffet and only eats the bread. He looks like fool, it might be ok when your like five, but he is 19 now.

If your brother is that against eating healthy foods then that's it. It's very hard to change the mind of someone once they have decided on something. I think when he struggles with cardio in the gym and feels like shit then it may be a good time to re-raise the topic, until then though I think your advice will be falling on deaf ears.

 

Cut off his fingers one by one until he starts eating right.

 

No offense dude, but this post is no less a waste of space than if the diet question was for yourself. You should read the FAQ and point him there. Just about ANYTHING would be better than that diet..

 

Man, sounds like it's something he's going to have to get over internally.. I had a good friend that was (and apparently still is) the same way and I never could get them to change his eating habits. He used to mix cheese and mayonnaise and bacon bits in a bowl and just eat that. Or like 4 white buns dipped in gravy and he was skinny as fuck. Disgusting.
Anyways, with all the knowledge around this forum, I have a feeling none of it will help until he makes a drastic change in his head.

 

yeah i guess, im not really concerned about the fact that he eats unhealthy, im stating the fact that he only eats those five things, meaning he wont eat chicken tenders from anywhere else but burger king, he dosent eat meat or chicken, veggies or fruits, only certain chocolate, and certain fries mainly bk and some others. I guess I think this a bigger problem then anyone else here?

Man, he sounds like a real baby dude. Does your mom feed him too? Kind of sounds like my bro in law too though. He always ate cereal and certain cihcken buggets and pizza... and candy...didnt try anything else at all cuz he's been babied all his life. Its hard to motivate people like that. I doubt this will work but im just throwing it out there. Does he have any idols or anything?? Sports he's into?? You ca try to use that to try and motivate him. Good luck bro.

im not a shrink, so i may be calling it OCD when it isn't. (i dont know the clinical definition of OCD)

i just said OCD, because he is so picky and needs foods to be a certain way in order to eat it (such as the pizza example, and french fry example). its seems kinda obsessive and compulsive to me lol.

it may not be OCD. im just guessing.

Yeah thats more of the type of response I was thinking about, yah I thought about the shrink, but that just seems like a big waste of time, because what two years to finally figure out that he is a little bitch and babied, Yeah my mom did baby his ass and still kind of does, what do you think about a hypnotist ? Anybody had an experience with any or heard of any of these guys actually doing something.

 

I do kind of see what you are saying. I think he was babied as a kid probably from his mom. Im just guessing this because it sounds just like my bro in law. He was so pampered that he is still like that. The kid eats a whole box of cereal to the head. When he was younger, his mom let him be like that. so that can probably be the same problem who knows. Either way...go bring him to a Dr or shrink and hopefully he'll get some sense knocked into him.

 

Once he reaches 30 eating like that he will balloon up. By then it will be real hard to make him eat right. Also as someone else said you lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
