ey guys .

Well i can't decide whats better for me to do .

In my area there just aren't that good of grappling/bjj gyms . now i train ground fighting to prepare for mma matches.

on monday and wednesday i train mma and kickboxing i have to travel pretty far for that , now in the area i live i can choose to train tuesday/thursday no gi plus boxing and kickboxing on that day and get ground lessons by a blue belt under rickson gracie . or should i pick training with gi on friday/satuday and thursday no gi at another gym but get trained by brown and black belts ?

I'm just not sure yet , the gi gym keeps me holding because i think gi training is just not effective for mma and the other gym because i don't think i can learn everything from a blue belt.

Whats your opinion?

Sry for the worse english btw .

That is a hard question..

Because it depends on what you want to accomplish, and who the individual trainers are..how good the instruction is..and how well you learn.

If you want amazing jiu jitsu obviously you want to train with brown and black belts...because other people will also be there...probably people with varying skills, some kickboxers...some wrestlers. You will be able to train with alot more than straight jiu jitsu guys...

Now if you choose the kickbozing no gi school..you will be introduced to more things, but that is not necessarily a good thing if you cannot absorb and take advantage of that...schools that offer a lot of different things will likely get you ok at everything but not really good at anything...

You want to be really good at one thing...or okay a a few things? It depends what you want...you can always start no gi and after you have learned a bit..switch to other training methods...

thanks for the reply m8 , well ive always trained different martial arts since i was 17-18 i'm now 24 , so i don't think i'm gonna be perfect at one thing.

Btw whats your opinion on training with a gi if you fight mma matches?

Its hard for me, cuz I'm not really sure what he's asking.

TS - when in doubt train with the best (brown and black belts). Despite what you may have heard, training in a gi won't hurt your mma training. Talk to the brown and black belt instructors and let them know you want to someday fight mma. Hopefully they will be honest with you and let you know if they are going to gear some training towards mma for you.

Thx m8 , alot of people have a different opinion on the gi/no gi thing you know , makes me confused .

sorry for my poor english .

Maybe my schedule would make it easier .

this is what i was thinking of

monday: Boxing morning / mma/kickboxing evening
tuesday: Boxing 2 lessons
wednesday: mma/kickboxing
thursday:MMa
friday:Bjj Gi
saturday: Hiit/Weights / Bjj Gi

This is a good schedule, especially if you can supplement some separate cardio/crossfit/HIIT in there...(something I am horrible at doing) :)

thanks m8 , i'm always the kinda guy that has a hard time making a decision , pretty annoying sometimes.

yeah i try to do some hiit 1-2 times a week , i try to train alot and and watch my nutrition . Yesterday i actually bought some hammers and a medicine ball to try the kevin kearns stuff :D .

Then I see no issues with your training, you can always change it up later but at the moment, I think you have a solid schedule.

Thats quite a schedule. The only thing I would change is to lift weights two days a week instead of just saturday. A pretty basic routine would be:
Day 1:
Squat
Bench
Pullups

Day 2:
Deads
OHP
Rows

Its usually best to lift weights on days you do bjj because it won't affect your training, in fact it might even make you concentrate on your technique even more. However seeing as how you do bjj on back to back days (fri/sat), i'm not sure when your other lifting day would be...maybe thursday?

Yeah i try to do it twice a week , but i focus more on muscle endurance and cardio tough . My strenght i think is pretty good . i weight 160 , some stats .

120 lbs dumbell bench x5 reps
Deadlift 440 lbs 1 rep
squat 396 1 rep

i try to more things like hiit and work on my explosion with medicine ball exercises and some snatch and clean exercises .

I did this exercise twice now ASU Insane Plate Workout | September 2 on Flowrestling

feels pretty good .

But your opinion is to train more on strenght or cardio muscle endurance ?

thanks

I am by no means an expert on this subject but I can tell you what makes sense to me. I like to do both, lift for strength and for endurance but I usually only lift heavy when I don't have a competition coming up. I stop lifting heavy and do almost strictly circuits 3-4 weeks leading up to a tournament or match.

I compare it to football players(american football). From what I've heard, they lift heavy in the off-season and then tone down during the season. It helps prevent injury as well.

ok thats good to know .

How about one of those plate workouts for muscle endurance a week and once a week strenght that includes bench/squats/pulls and deads?

From what I've read, its probably not the most efficient way to train. Doing all those heavy lifts in 1 day will probably get you hurt or won't maximize the benefits of each workout.

An alternative could be to rotate.
week 1: 1 day of muscle endurance(plates), 1 day of strength training(squat, bench, pullups)

Week 2: two days of strength training

week 3: 1 day of muscle endurance, 1 day of strength training(deads, OHP, rows)

Again, i'm no expert. most of the information is from what i've done myself(and i'm no profesional athlete, not even close). I'm mostly just repeating from what i've read from the s&p and conditioning forum.

That plate exercise looks really cool. I also like Randy Couture's complex.
