I know others have mentioned it once you see the intro it should jog you memory more than just a pic of the toy.

I think your memory is betraying you a bit in terms of the bolts on his neck. Tranzor Z had spikes coming out of the sides of his head, rather than bolts. Also what most people remember about this show was that the girl robot had missiles for tits. And she would launch them at enemies.



Also, it's less likely, but it could be grendizer too

So far, the details TS gave regarding the robot are:

• body was black and red
  
• no human pilots
  
• head was kinda large for his body
  
• grey cylindrical head with knobs/rivets that circled around the top
  
• No face but might have had eyes that lit up or possibly his mouth when he talked?
• flew with rockets on it's feet

The movie itself/setting:

• may have been Japanese
• late 80s early 90s animated movie
  
• Involved robots fighting robots, rather than monsters

I'll be honest, I can't think of a single mecha that fits all of those categories. I took a look at different lists of mecha from that time, and none seem to fit the description.

TS, when you say no face, but may have eyes, I'm a bit unsure at what you mean. Do you mean has only eyes, and nothing where the mouth or nose would be?
