If you haven't already I'd appreciate if you read these threads first:

Anyway, now that you're somewhat familiar with my "master plan," I need your help greatly. From the Dieting/Supplementation angle:

1. I'm about 170 now. In my tournament, I need to weigh in at 162 MAXIMUM (162+5lbs for gi=167, the top of my weight class). I didn't account as much for gi weight as I probably should of. It still makes more sense to cut the 8-10lbs to get down to the next weight class than move up to the 181 max weight class, right? (I'm pretty sure it is).
2. How should I eat to maximize fat loss while cutting to minimize muscle and power loss (I know, kind of a FAQ, but I thought maybe with more knowledge of my training you could provide a more complete answer)?
3. Anything else I need to know about cutting. I'm a weight cutting NEWB so anything you think I should, by all means, say so.

Thanks for the help guys.

Cutting and losing weight is 2 different things.

What is your fat at right now? When are weigh-ins? How much do you reasonably think you could drop in time for your tournament? 8 pounds in 6 weeks is not alot.

I want to cut as much BF as possible. I don't want to have to rely on cutting water weight much, especially becuase I weigh in right before my fights.

dude , weight doesnt matter in gi jiu jitsu tournaments. no matter your weight you need good technique, if another guy even 10 pounds lighter then you has better tech then you you will lose. you should worry about your skills and not your weight.

If jiu jitsu is like wrestling...i imagine it matters some.

you can easily manipulate the gi against stronger opponents and slow them down rather easily. in wrestling you dont have the handles to slow them down.

A lot of guys cut ~20 lbs of water weight. If was in the higher weight class, I'd probably end up with some 200lb guys. I don't want that.

if there are weight restrctions then weight matters a great deal. He is trying to get down to a lower weight class and that is always a tricky thing to do. You don't want to loose too much muscle and strength in the process. It sounds like he has some fat to shed.

Bro could you post your current diet and BF%? It could be as simple as cleaning up your diet and increasing your cardio.

weight and strength is one of the least factors in a gi jiu jitsu fight as long its within reason, it isnt wrestling.

I don't have too much BF, though I don't know exactly what it is. Been following a pretty clean diet, gonna clean it up a bit more November. I'm gonna post my routine and diet in the S&P forum later tonight I think.
