This discussion came up in another thread about a week ago. It was more of a side note, it thought it'd make an interesting poll. 'In the history of MMA, which Heavyweight (206+) do you consider to have the best standup striking and ground and pound?' *All fighters are considered to be back in their prime. *No discussion about the other aspects of MMA - this is only about striking. But endurance can be considered. *No discussion of last fights or legacy - this isn't a GOAT debate. *Poll options and order are not in 'line' with implied ranking, they are completely random. *Crocop* "Right Leg; Hospital. Left Leg; Cemetery." We all know what that means. It's synonymous with the best leg kick knockout highlight ever to grace combat sports - bar none. Crocop dominated most of his fights in Pride with his effective standup technique learned through his K1 kickboxing background, and those he lost were close fights - though he KOed who many considered the most vicious striker ever in Pride - Wanderlei Silva." *JDS With a style that honors his favorite boxers, JDS overwhelms his opponents with a flurry of punches from all angles from outside of his opponent's reach. He's 6'4 and only 240 so he fights tall, with the speed of a LHW. And with KO victories spanning from his UFC debut to his most recent, the argument for his striking to be the best MMA has ever seen would be respected. *Cain Velasquez Cain currently hold two titles, one being the UFC HW belt, the other having the most KO/TKO finishes in UFC HW history. His strike output is on par with the average Bantamweight, and with his record of who he's KOed is comparable to the best that's graced the sport. *Fedor With the speed of a lightweight, and the power of a man much larger than his 230 pound frame, Fedor's highlight reel KOs stretch throughout his career. His GnPed the best grapplers he fought, and outstruck fighters who supposedly had better striking. Though he has more submissions in his career, his striking fatigued most of those fighters to be susceptible to his amazing armbars and chokes. *Mark Hunt Most fighters on this list have had the highlights of their career in either Pride or UFC, Hunt is the only for their highlights to span both. With power he was born with he's proved the critics wrong that said he is too short (5'10), he's KOed his opponents with both left and right hands. *Carwin Shane Carwin has a higher percentage of KO wins than anyone else on this list, all of them were in the 1st round, and debatably the most punching power of anyone to compete in combat sports. Any list of the best strikers in MMA HW history has to include this moster. *Other - Nelson, Overeem, etc. Post why if you're pissed I left someone out, and they should have been of the 6 choices.
