Heavyweight is the most overrated division of all time.

What about the opposite examples?

Lawler being a mid tier MW and becoming WW champion

Yoel being a mid tier LHW and becoming the hottest MW contender

Chael going up to LHW and being destroyed by Rashad

Barao going up to FW and being a nobody

MM dropping to FLW and becoming #1 P4P

all the small SW/natural AW girls who can't cut it anymore with all the FLWs and BWs cutting down

?

It means the competition per weight class isnt as off as you think.

If hw was so good no smaller fighter would ever have wins at hw yet they do.

Hahaha holy crap. Skinny Pride Reem is different than Ubereem and they are different than current Reem. Even a 4 year old could tell the difference between those three. Get the fuck outta here, are you trolling?

How does a top 3 LHW beating a top 10 HW feed your point?

No division or fighter is untouchable. Are you a child?

You think gaining weight changes your bone density and natural weight class.

You calling someone a child is hilarious

Overeem is 6'4 and weighs in at 240 even when he's noticeably lost mass. He killed himself to make LHW in Pride which is why he always gassed and why he's found more success at HW. I'm not saying he didn't have help filling out his frame in the Uber era, but he's a natural HW.

So you are asking if HWs are the best then why did a natural HW win the title??? You answered it...BECAUSE HE IS A NATURAL HW artard!

cormier is not a natural hw. he's fat af at HW.

Rumble got destroyed by rich Clementi and Josh Koscheck. They fucking stomped him.

He clearly functions better at a heavier weight, arlovski was also cheated in that fight. You clearly haven't watched it. Not to mention Arlovski is handily finished by HW that can connect clean. Rumble doesn't have that vicious HW power that Stipe or Overeem have. Rumble would get destroyed at HW. There is a reason he cuts to avoid that division. It's not because he enjoys dehydrating his body.

Cormier fought jones dehydrated and at LHW, not at HW.

Overeem is obviously much better at 265 when not dehydrating himself to make 205.

There's a reason guys fight at 205 and not 265. Because they don't want 6'5, 250 Werdum's foot in their throat or 300lbs Mark Hunt smashing their face in.

You don't dehydrate yourself to fight in a lower division because you're a hero. You do it because you are afraid of competing at a higher weight class because you have a higher chance of losing.

You... Can't... Be....Serious.

"I" never said they were that far off.

Vitor was 4-1 in the UFC HW back when it was awful. If he would have fought in PRIDE back then or tried to fight in the UFC today, he would get/gotten railroaded.

Rumble is undisputedly the 2nd or 3rd best LHW in the world, running through everyone, and he narrowly beat a barely top 10 HW. So, if anything, that shows the validity of how different the HWs are from the lower divisions.

Randy is an amazing fighter. Also, I think he was just as successful at LHW.

DC is also an amazing fighter, 1st or 2nd best LHW in the world, and is undefeated at HW, but has only faced sub top 5 HW with most not even being top 10 anymore. His best win is Barnett.

Overeem's success is not due to changing weightclass. It is due to bulking up to 240+lbs and developing K-1 level striking. If he was able to cut 205(impossible) now, with his strength and skill, he'd blow all of the LHW division away.

If it was so easy to win at HW, then fighters like Gus, Texiera, OSP, etc. would stop cutting and get some gold. But they don't because they know they'd get destroyed.

than why didn't couture and cormier get destroyed

Weight classes are there for a reason: to protect smaller fighters.
Being the HW champ means you are the baddest fighter out there if these LHWs could jump up they would.

PS. clearly a lighter HW can hang in striking with much heavier ones, prime Badr Hari was about 220 lbs, Crocop was in the 220's, in boxing there have been plenty of guys in the 220s-230s which is modern LHW size. Now that I think about it it's more the grappling that encourages many lighter guys to cut down, probably.

or maybe it is because HW is not a glorified weight class like in boxing and because their are no solid matches there.

Other than rumble who has? In recent years?

Kids in this thread bringing up Randy and Vitor like it matters in the current landscape of the sport.
Pipe down.

my point is that people act like HW is untouchable yet it clearly isn't.
The main issue is as I mentioned that LHWs are small HWs, so it doesn't make sense that people act like LHWs are a completely different class from HWs. If they fought at HW they would just be... well, small HWs, some would succeed and some not as much.

In striking sports a good number of the "HWs" are LHW sized.
