Heavyweight is the most overrated division of all time.

Yeah, smaller fighters can win, but against big HWs they're at a disadvantage that they can no doubt feel in training. If they weren't more guys who weigh 215 lbs or something would fight at HW instead of cutting to LHW or MW.

a disadvantage maybe, but historically we havent seen that. every person we have seen move up to HW has had success.

i guess that goes for every division though when fighters move up.

I know.

He has a loss at LHW not at HW.

He was never in any dnager when fighting at HW, he has only ever been in trouble at LHW

His toughest opposition at HW was Josh Barnett. At LHW he has definitively beaten the top two contenders.

I think there is a reason the most dominant champion, that is also a drug addict, is afraid to fight in that Division.

It's likely that the few guys who move up know they can be successful due to hanging with bigger fighters in training, the majority don't move up and more often move down for a reason.

Rumble got destroyed by rich Clementi and Josh Koscheck. They fucking stomped him.

He clearly functions better at a heavier weight, arlovski was also cheated in that fight. You clearly haven't watched it. Not to mention Arlovski is handily finished by HW that can connect clean. Rumble doesn't have that vicious HW power that Stipe or Overeem have. Rumble would get destroyed at HW. There is a reason he cuts to avoid that division. It's not because he enjoys dehydrating his body.

Cormier fought jones dehydrated and at LHW, not at HW.

Overeem is obviously much better at 265 when not dehydrating himself to make 205.

There's a reason guys fight at 205 and not 265. Because they don't want 6'5, 250 Werdum's foot in their throat or 300lbs Mark Hunt smashing their face in.

You don't dehydrate yourself to fight in a lower division because you're a hero. You do it because you are afraid of competing at a higher weight class because you have a higher chance of losing.

dude reem was never dehydrated at LHW. He built himself up to HW. He was never a natural HW and even now he is clearly a small HW

HW means best fighter on the planet. But ya its weak which means UFC talent pool is weak.

if there is casting punches that means its the best division not the most overrated.

no way. Jones wanted to stay at LHW because he was the LHW champion.

why didn't cormier stay at HW?

this has nothing to do with cormier who gives a fuck about cormier we're talking about why jones dont want to fuck with the heavyweights and its cause they are a bunch of bad asses

they are a bunch of bad asses yet everyone who has ever moved up to HW has won.

if your argument was true vitor would have never won at HW, reem would have never won at HW, couture would have never won the championship and cormier wouldnt be a HW GP champion.

thats back when heavyweights werent worth a shit

He could have started off as a HW since his good buddy Rashad was a LHW.
He didn't want to, because he didn't want go get punched by guys like JDS, get wrestled by guys like Cain, or end up submission grappling with guys like Werdum.
He chose to starve and dehydrate to 205 instead.

Another factor - most modern LHWs are actually HWs. Literally, they weigh the same as the smaller (ie. usually most successful) HWs but cut weight to fight at LHW. A guy like Rumble or Glover walks around at 235 which is the same as what JDS or Werdum weighs at HW and bigger than Fedor or Crocop in the day. You can't say HWs are overrated when the LHWs you claim are better are really just HWs who cut.

A better argument would be that smaller HWs are usually better than larger, but that makes one wonder why people cut to LHW then, so it's not universal.

I don't even see why this is up for debate. Jon Jones, who is pretty much hailed as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time and the best currently fighting has gone on record saying he's waiting for the right opponent before he moves up to HW (never gonna happen, he's been saying it for years) and that he would not do well against HW's that have 40 lbs on him (and Jones is a guy who can absolutely fight at HW with his size)

People like Couture had success at HW in the UFC when it was dogshit

People constantly put their body through trauma to cut 10-20 lbs in MMA/UFC to gain advantages on fight night, it's not unusual to see 20-40 lb discrepancies between HW fighters

a well rounded HW like Barnett, Werdum, Reem, Cain, etc are the greatest fighters in the sport..they're as skilled as people in lower divisions and hit like trucks

P4P lists are dumb marketing tools, HW division is the pinnacle of fighting..you won't see better fighters, but you may be entertained more from other divisions

He moved to lhw because cain was at hw. Not bc he was afraid of any hw's
