Heath Ledger’s diary while he was filming for, The Dark Night.

Just sounds like a teen trying to be edgy.

Well I'm assuming he was fleshing out his character and getting into his mindset and this appears to be a method they use.

Having said that, actors are a weird bunch.

No wonder actors don't want to play the same character (especially evil ones) too long.

That's a weird way to tell us you used to post low res Joker memes on Facebook.

Yeah i read that Tuco was supposed to be the main series villain in Breaking Bad but the actor just couldn't or wouldn't keep himself in that mindset. He said he was bringing the character home with him at the end of the day and he couldn't do it anymore.

Maybe it's that technique where you try to embody the character as much as possible, method acting basically. For example the page of "things that make me laugh" would be a good way to imagine 1. What kind of psyche finds these things funny? and then 2. Practise putting yourself in the mindset of someone that does find those things funny.
For an actor acting is literally the only work they do and it works on a contractual basis (meaning long periods of doing nothing in-between contracts), so if you're serious doing well at a role it makes sense to bring the work home and focus on it as much as possible.

This movie and this scene in particular was a hysterical blast of satire but I do think Stiller & Downey were poking and prodding their craft a little too close to home for some method actors.
