B.J. Penn went up in weight instead and didn't defend his title again until more than a year later.

Randy Couture refused to defend against anyone but Fedor and sat out for nearly 2 years.

A little bit harder to do now with so many events. I know Conor with moving up doing his thing is an example but he is fighting and the UFC is going to milk him for the dollars while they can.

The Randy thing was messed up. Wasn't LW pretty shallow when bj won the strap since it was so new. Plus the UFC events were few and far between back then.
Conor is the champ, and has proven to make it down there without issues. However the fact that he wants to fight at LW and WW instead of defending his title. Factoring in all of the rumors on his struggle and how he looks when he does make it to 145 makes this issue more controversial

I can't comprehend any adjective used to describe the lack of title defense from a pure MMA fan standpoint.

Yes, I am Human, and do understand basic concern over another Human's well being AS A FELLOW HUMAN!

As an MMA fan, it is "personally" none of my damn business WHY they cannot defend their title. It makes no more difference to me from a pure MMA fan standpoint if the champion is injured, ill, vacationing, on a religious retreat, or a fwapathon!

There should be a defined timeline for the defense of the belt, and I don't give a flying F if the champion uses the time between title fights to heal, jerk off, or anywhere in between!

As long as he defends by December then all should be fine. That will be a year.

But it is ridiculous that he's healthy and taking fights at 170 instead of defending. And its entirely hypocritical of him and his fans to bitch about Aldo not defending. At least he wasn't holding up the division with some vanity fights.

According to many on here, Conor taking super fights where the opponent pulls out (RDA) is worse than being always injured ala Pettis, Cain, Cruz, maybe GSP, etc

Conor took the Diaz fight on short notice and doesn't deserve the hate for wanting to avenge the loss.

He only took the fight at 170 (short notice) because RDA pulled out. WTF man, would you have rathered him do what Jones did and ruin the whole card? He ended up losing so of course he wants to avenge the loss. It was not long ago he knocked Aldo out. Aldo should fight someone before getting an immediate rematch anyhow.

And if that is not enough for you, Aldo didn't want the rematch on short notice so he can fuck off for all I'm conerned

So it's great if Conor wants to avenge his loss, but tough shit if Aldo wants to avenge his loss? At least the Aldo fight would be in their actual division.

There were a lot of people who thought he should have defended against Frankie instead of taking the RDA fight.

Settle down. The 1st thing I said was that as long as he defends by December then it shouldn't be a problem.

The 1st fight with Diaz was understandable given the circumstances. Its the rematch thats ridiculous. And its funny how you say he lost the 1st fight so of course he wants to avenge the loss then go on to say Aldo needs to fight someone else 1st. Like Conor didn't double tap to Diaz. Fact is, I didn't say anything about a rematch with Aldo. It should have been Edgar/McGregor for the belt at 200.

I'm pretty sure Edgar turned down the short notice fight too. I have no problem with Aldo wanting the rematch, just don't feel he's entitled to it.

I'm all for Aldo wanting to avenge his loss. He is just not holding any of the cards like Conor is.

I'm not a Canor fan but you raise some good points

"Super Fights" that's crazy talk.

Yeah if you're the champion, you need to defend your belt. Painfully obvious.

No one except you is bringing up a short notice fight. McGregor could have fought Edgar at 200. Why is he entitled to a rematch against Diaz? At least Aldo was undefeated for 10 years and the only FW champion in the UFC's history.
