My ears have been getting sore and I don't want to end up with cauliflower ear. Some of the ear guards I have seen online look like they are hard on the outside and I don't want anything that will hurt my opponent, but I want a good product with good protection.

    What do you guys wear?

If you had to buy a new set today what would you get?

    Brute Shockwave Wrestling Earguard

i have a couple pairs and i think the shockwave is the best bjj headgear for both you and your training partners.... soft on the outside... very slim doesnt increase the profile of your head at all

Yeah I have the brute too, very satisfied although it takes a minute to figure out. First time I put it together I tried putting it on backward lol.

I have actaully used my Rugby scrum cap once before because i had a touch of the cauliflower. The BRUTE looks to be made of of the same material but without a "top".

Just make sure that it is nice and snug around your ears when you wear it, or you can still get cauliflower. I have seen in happen in rugby to guys who are wearing loose scrum caps. I may get a few of these Brutes for BJJ and for Rugby training.

Another thing you may want to try is to wrap athletic tape around your forehead and ears (like a headbanc) a few times and them finish it off with a few wraps of electrical tape. The electrical tape will seal it on and it will not come off. It is good at curbing the friction that causes cauliflower

I have done a search, but some threads are old and there is constantly new items coming out.

Why would I buy the best headgear of 2005, when I can get the best of 2008.

damn, matman doesn't hold back on color selection - you can get one to match your belt! (brute does as well)

    second the tornado

its relatively comfortable (as far as earguards go) and you still retain quite a bit of hearing

the hard plastic on the tornado looks like it could scrape up or bother your training partners

^^ i have the tornado as well as the brute shockwave... the tornado has hard plastic that can scrape up the partner and it is also far more bulky than the shockwave.... the tornado increases the profile of your head considerably and can cause issues slipping out of things... i got the tornado first... and it is comfortable... but i haven't worn it at all since i got the shockwave, simply because of the hard plastic and bulkiness of the tornado
