This is now the 5th time these guys have been scheduled to fight and I’m wondering if people’s opinions on how the fight will play out have changed and if so why?

Khabib and Ferguson were first scheduled to fight in November 2015. So 4 years have passed and in that time this is what has happened:

Ferguson has defeated Barboza, Vanatta, RDA, Kevin Lee and Donald Cerrone.

Khabib has defeated Horcher, Michael Johnson, Barboza, Iaquinta, McGregor and Poirier.

I personally picked Tony the first time they were scheduled and I am still picking Tony, but I don’t think this is the ideal time for Tony to fight Khabib. Tony suffered a bad injury during these 4 years and he is also going to be 36 by the time the fight happens. Khabib has of course had his injuries too, but Tony’s was really bad.

During these 4 years Khabib has improved as a fighter and there is no doubt about that. The 2020 Khabib is going to be a fair bit harder to defeat than the 2015 Khabib. I’d say Ferguson has improved parts of his game over this time too, but I think the timing of this fight finally happening benefits Khabib more than it does Tony. You could flip it and say that Tony has had a ton of time to prepare for Khabib, but I think too much preparation can be bad when you’re fighting Khabib. Still picking Tony to get it done.

Who did you pick the first couple of times and who are you picking now?

I’m not expecting too many people to have changed their picks. I think Ferguson at the least will give Khabib his toughest fight.

Agreeing with your point that Khabib keeps on improving. Abdulmanap literally doesn't teach Khabib any striking at all, AKA really helped Khabib in that department.

Khabib bodylock and vicious GnP also started to solidified since his fight with Michael Johnson.

    Nope.

Still have no idea who will win. All I know is that this is the best LW fight to date in the UFC

I wouldn’t be surprised if Khabib staggers/drops Tony at some point. Khabib is explosive and carries decent power.

After the kevin lee fight I though Khabib would ve beat tony. Tony 's overall game was weird this night, he didn't push the pace as usual, the striking wasn't that diverse etc

But after those 2 last beautiful performances from tony, I am back on his train !

Khabib will win his next fight.

Still don't believe Khabib Vs Tony is going to happen tho.

It’s a reasonable POV. I’d hate to have to bet my savings on this fight.

Definitely not putting money anywhere near this one.

I do have a nice 3 month AV bet with @Hitto though.

He hit McGregor with all his weight behind his punch, caught him by surprise and landed on the jaw and only got a flash knockdown and McGregor recovered fast. He could hurt tony but let’s be real he ain’t a power puncher at the elite level of the ufc.

Sometimes I think it’s just cursed. Cage malfunction or Khabib tears Tony’s ACL when he dives for the leg. I just hope to God that after all this time we don’t get a horrible ending or a KO in the first exchange. I want to watch at least 3 rounds of these two guys going at it.

Not a power puncher but he is deceptively fast and without dropping people consistently he carries enough force behind his punches to stun you if he catches you off-guard. I think Tony will of course win the striking if there is a prolonged striking battle.

Almost more exciting than the fight itself. It better be a good AV if you win.

Khabib is now 31, reached his prime now
Ferguson will be 36 when they fight, left his prime 3 years ago

Khabib's striking got better, Ferguson's chin got cracked a few times.

Pick didn't change, but Khabib now wins easier.
