Has this sport lost legitimacy since the UFC built Conor?

Since the fucking sun rises only because of Conor, how did people see before he went mainstream?

Ever since Conor has become mainstream you have weird stuff going on like signing up CM Punk, fighters calling out actors and professional boxers, BMF belt, fighters from 155 fighting at 170 for the lulz, not to mention WMMA shoved down our throats like the last co-main that was deserving of prelim status

No,Eddie Hearn promoted Logan Paul vs KSI in boxing and now his younger bro is fighting. Fighting sports tend to get away with promoting such nonsense as everyone thinks they can have a go. You would never see a Premier League club giving an Instagram 'influencer' (twat) a run out for their team to sell more tickets.

Lmao Conor built himself

The guy was a living highlight and knew how to promote himself
If he hadn't been signed to a promotion like the UFC he would still be an unknown. The UFC built him, not the other way around.

same way people did without racism and vases

The negative changes of recent years are largely a result of WME. Things have happened that Lorenzo would (rightly) have vetoed. They may never have even been contemplated on his watch. That is not to say that the Lorenzo era was perfect, merely that there has been a definite culture change since the sale.

I mean what came before him? Brock Lesnar beating heath herring to get a title shot? Kimbo slice? (Rip). Of the cash cows he’s pretty legit

This. MMA has always been about spectacle over sport. Conor has almost nothing to do with it.

If the “real fighters” of the UFC could actually beat people like Brock, Conor, Ronda, etc, then there might be something to argue about.

Brock beat the UFC HW champ and then he successfully defended the belt against the top contender.
Conor beat several Top 10 FW and destroyed the FW GOAT in 13 seconds, and then toyed with the LW champ.

Brock got given by overeem.
Conor avoided tough matchups and never defended his belts.

WME still has like 3.5 billion dollars to pay off on that purchase bill..........

Poirier, Holloway, Mendez, Aldo, Eddie

all ez matchups amirite
LOL at baby Holloway. Aldo was a fluke, Mendes two week notice, Poirier pre prime but fine... Good win as. Alvarez was super legit. But he cherry picks and avoids tough matchups. Why didn't he defend against khabib?

I don't really give a shit about all that crap in the OP. I just want to see two bad asses go at it until a victor is declared.

If anything, I think people ruin things for themselves by insisting on ranking and categorizing things instead of just enjoying the combat.

What tough match-ups did he avoid?

I think your point is void when you have fought Khabib, Aldo, Mayweather, Holloway....

You 'LOL' but the truth is he would beat all of them again. No fluke, just accept that he is a decent fighter with some flaws as exposed by Khabib. No real shame in that seen as 26 others failed...

Conor built Conor.

If the UFC could "build" a Conor, they would do it all the time.
