A few years ago, this was one of the more frequent sayings you'd hear on this site.
Sure, theres no retirement pension, collective bargaining agreements, even ownership of our the fighters own likeness. They just got rid of individual sponsors for those big time Reebok dollars. Only the top 3% of fighters on the roster have seen their income rise in accordance with the UFC's value, all while the UFC rose from a 2 million dollar company to 4 BILLION.
"Bu- Bu- But--without Uncle Dana and the Fertittas MMA wouldnt exist!!"
Newflash, clownshoes: MMA and its derivatives wouldve continued to exist in their own realm without Uncle Dana and the mob to water it down. Remember Japanese MMA? They were the ones pushing the envelope by shelling out the Anderson Silva money in the early days, which attracted top athletes from across the globe.
In fact, the UFC has done a lot to worsen "the sport" by killing off its competition. UFC soaked up the US market which couldve been used by a superior product in Pride. Then they bought and killed Strikeforce. Only years after these events was it demonstrated that the competition was actually superior.
So, now that the mob sold out for an NFL team, and the new companys been cutting fighters and staff, how come I havent been hearing this phrase as much guys???
