Has MMA changed Hollywood action movies and how fight scenes are choreographed?

Something I noticed is that ever since UFC went relatively to the mainstream fight scenes in movies are a lot more authentic and realistic. You don't see so much wire-fu with guys doing jumping backflips or crazy stuff anymore, there's more focus on realistic techniques and you even see submissions here and there.

Granted there was a triangle choke in Lethal Weapon 1 but I think it's a real thing.

Has MMA affected street fights too? is the average joe just alot more knowledgable about what works in fights and what doesnt

More gun fu and krav maga in recent action films (like Jon Wick and Taken). But I do agree with you to a certain extent.

100%, fight literate people don't want to see fake shit.

Fight literate are the minority. It may be having an effect but why wouldn't you want to have the most authentic scenes that you could possibly produce to attract more viewership? Just makes sense in the long run

Yeah. Mma and phones, you can watch tons of street fights to see what really happens when normal untrained people fight

I think movies in general are just getting more realistic. i wouldnt put the credit on the UFC.

Hyper-realistic fight choreography as well as over the top wire-fu sequences have NOT evolved.

...and it's a shame.

Even Wing Chun was SUPER sullied in the IP Man movies. >:[ (whereas actual Wing Chun ((in the hands of a creative practitioner)) can look AMAZING on camera)

Donnie Yen is cool, but...he is rigid, and the same can be said for Tony Jaa.

Once upon a time Jackie Chan made Drunken Master 2, and Jet Li made Fist Of Legend...which were pretty good...alas, those stellar efforts remain a rarity. (mind you, there are MANY problems with those movies, but had said actors evolved...it would've been awesome to see)

...and again, it's a shame.

Under-cranking is for losers, and generally speaking, fight scenes in movies (be they American or foreign) are WHOLLY lacking in spirit and quality.

Fight scenes are containing more mma aspects - grappling, clinch fighting - but there are still plenty of the old standard Hollywood fight tactics, spinning jumping kicks from 20 feet away, guys walking through 38 power punches without a scratch. As ground fighting, you still see a lot of just pushing the top guy over, easily rolling him over from mount - "Guy sitting on dude's chest, no problem, just grab his shoulders and toss him off you."

And of course, the neck breaker will never die.

I like real fighting not that ninja-kung fu shit we used to see , and Hikido is fake and useless in real world

Where you think the Diaz brothers got the slap from?

I think mma has affected Hollywood movies for sure. One problem with it that I notice is you see guys in supposed fights to the death going for arm bars rather than a gun. :p

Whenever I see something like this these days I just burst out laughing:

Action movies are so douchey it's terrible.

The number of Flying Arm-Bars definitely increased
