Yeah, another Conor thread. I have been watching him since he debuted in the UFC against Brimage. He's had many successes, obviously, and he has fought a higher level of competition since his first UFC fight. But re-watching that Brimage fight, the angles he cut and the way he moved seemed more advanced than the way he approaches fights now. The Aldo fight was impressive because he caught him, but he seems more flat footed, and more content to counter strike standing in front of an opponent.

I noticed it in the Siver and Mendes fights as well. Maybe it had something to do with his ACL tear? Maybe he has been more reliant on his chin and less on his technical abilities? For all of his focus on movement training, he showed none of it in the Diaz fight. He basically stood in front of Diaz and whiffed on a bunch of spinning kicks.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I think he has developed some bad habits from fighting in the FW division. Watch him against Ivan Buchinger and you'll see an almost flawless striking performance. I think you could say he has gotten lazy but I also think his camp is an issue; training with better guys who are elite strikers in their own right would push McGregor to be the best he can be.

He was over confident clearly.

Mendes actually tagged him with some good power shots in their fight, he was standing in front of him too.

Conor knew no one could trade with him and take his shots until he moved up. Nows he's got to reevaluate his game at 170 and even 155 when he goes there.

At 145 he could stand in there and take the shots and play his game.

I would make a few changes or just add a mix of strikers and wrestlers/jiu jitsu practictioners and he will be fine

I feel like if he is able to incorporate the same amount of movement he used earlier in his career, he would have a lot more success at 155, and even 170. His angles and speed were amazing. He always had power, but he landed more and got hit less. Mendes isn't a great boxer, he has power as well, but that version of Mendes shouldn't have been able to hit Conor clean.

I agree with you but the 170lbs, he has no game in that division, Nate is not a legit WW despite his "modest" run there, LW and WW is where Conor belongs and it seems LW will be a real threat to him.

PS: He might got lazy with his training tho, his arms in the Nate fight didnt had much muscle definition.

i agree with everything you said, and i agree that he's shown to be lazy at times. Although I'm not sure how you can say he was flat-footed against aldo. It was only 13 seconds and he was hopping in and out the whole time.

Like it's been mentioned, he needs to mix it up with other camps. He probably wipes the floor with anyone at his gym. And he believed his own hype with his power. Sometimes he thinks he can just stand there and trade.

Yeah Robin Black did a good breakdown on him.
Said he now have some bad fighting habit.
Think Luke Thomas also made a similar point.

I think he got impatient. With Conor it has always been "what's next." I think he got into the mindset of wanting to, and expecting to, just walk right through everyone and move on to the next bigger fight.

I think he respected Aldo, though. It was only 13 seconds but he seemed to be very much focused in the cage that night. Very different from his other fights, Imo

He was very sloppy and lazy with Nate. Not sure what impact his improvements will have, but I really do believe he is capable of more than what he showed in that fight.

I think he trains plenty hard, so it's not a matter of being lazy. It's more complacency due to his success. The same formula is not going to work against a whole new category of opponents. He's either going to have to evolve a new strategy, or he will struggle greatly at 155 and up. I'm not sure this will occur at his current camp, but it may. We'll have to wait and see.

He became a pressure fighter to chase his bold fight predictions. It was the right tactic for the Siver fight and he stuck with it ever since. Confidence was sky high as everything was going his
Way and all his wildest dreams were coming true and that gave us the aggressive fighting style Conor we have today.

Yeah, I noticed his touch butt sessions haven't been too intense lately.... I keep showin up at the park , but keep leaving unsatisfied

Conor threads just don't feel the same anymore after that loss. The aura is gone.

Just another clown that spent too much time reading his own press clippings, and talking shit. Instead of training to fight grown men.

I hope Nate lazily sends him into retirement. Doesn't seem likely though, as Conor will tap at the first sign of danger.

I agree .He is the aggressor now rather then a counter striker. And for all the talk of movement he wasnt cutting angles or anything. Now alot of boxing guys will say the better you get at movement the less you need to move and maybe that was conors approach. But either way he needs to stick to 45.

Im a big Conor fan but he definately has small man syndrome as hes obsessed by height and size as we all know to the point of hysteria and I have to admit when plan "A" doesnt work a.k.a his left hand, the rest of his arsenal seem to be pretty ineffective and more flashy than effective and due to the fact that for the most part fighting smaller guys he was convinced he could dominate anybody which proved not to be the case and theres a good point to bemade that his power was an illusion (Max Holloway didnt have much of a problem with it albit the fight went to the gound for half of the fight). When you surround youself with yes men combined with Conors obvious ego as opposed to those that give correct advice and tell it like it is what happened to Conor tends to happen eventually as was the case. Like I said Im a big Conor fan but facts are facts and he bit off more than he could chew last time out.
