Considering Yadong, the Leech and Weili Zhang, no doubt about it. Japan is way past its prime. Same with Korea.

You look at all the notable fighters that came from Japan. Sakuraba, Genki Sudo, Hayato Sakurai, Kid Yamamoto, Kazuo Misaki, Yushin Okami and many more I'd say China has some catching up to do but they've taken a good first step.

Japan, yes. But not Korea.

Though you have to say China has the best overall fighter since Zhang's the champ, Korea still has far more emerging prospects.

What you see is what the UFC wants you to see not the reality
The UFC failed to conquer the japanese MMA's market thats why you no longer see competitive japanese fighters in the UFC.
On another hand you see plenty of sucessful chinese fighters when the UFC is trying to sell in China because learning from the experience they know they need some local champion or at least challenger to sell in a said country.
They are matched against opponents who have the right style to make them shine.
Thats why I'm losing interest for the UFC, this is just a scripted real tv show made to look like its really real

If the question is has Chinese female MMA surpassed them, then yes.

Their chicks are stronger.

japanese bjj gyms train almost exclusively with the gi. that might have something to do with it.

I mean, has there even been a truly great fighter out of Japan outside of Sakuraba? Don't you dare say Gomi.

There is actually a reason for this. The UFC has recently built a performance institute in China like the one in Vegas. However the PI in China has a full training staff to help develop a fighters technique along with physical conditioning.

The UFC is essentially training its own team China as way of ensuring a new generation of Chinese fighters can move up the UFC ranks. Every couple of months they hold tryouts at the PI and then they enroll the promising candidates into a PI training class that has a full on curriculum. It's college for fighters.

So as the years go expect to see more fighter emerging from China.

Info from the article

UFC has just concluded its second bi-annual Combine, a talent evaluation platform that allows the best MMA prospects in China to showcase their skills and abilities for a full ride scholarship at the UFC Academy. There were twenty-five athletes selected from the first UFC Combine, and after six months of full time training at the world-class UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai, they amassed a 23-3 fight record.

Twenty new athletes along with twenty UFC Academy enrollees were invited to take part in the second Combine. They were tested on 72 individual metrics in 12 categories covering technical skill (wrestling, grappling and striking) with physical ability (explosive lower and upper body power, maximum strength, anaerobic power, anaerobic capacity, reaction time, aerobic recoverability).

Following the second UFC Combine, the male athletes selected for the second UFC Academy Season include stand out MMA fighters Ma Haobin and Sha Yilan, China regional champions Lv Zhenhong and Aoriqileng, and hot prospects Rong Zhu and Ba Lajin. The female athletes selected include IMMAF world champion Han Guangmei, plus stand outs Yan Qihui, Liang Na and Ramona Pascual.

As previously announced, the first-ever Asia edition of Dana White’s Contender Series, the groundbreaking mixed martial arts fight series that showcases up-and-coming talent, will be taking place at the UFC Performance Institute starting in 2020. Selected UFC Academy participants will face regional contenders for a chance to be considered for the biggest stage in combat sports, UFC.

Additional details concerning the UFC Academy and DWCS Asia schedules, format, and participants will be announced at a later date.

All time, they still have a bit of work to do, but China will definitely dominate among Asian countries in the future

China and Russia might both overtake the USA as the MMA powerhouses

China certianly has better representation in the UFC right now, but there are plenty of elite JMMA fighters out there:

Asakura bros, Horiguchi, Wada, Motoya, Ogikubo, Ishiwatari, Majima, Naoki Inoue, Shoko Sato. All are UFC contender level right now.

Lighter weights/wmma dont count unfortunately

Call me when a chinese dude beats khabib

Okami, Kim, Saku all did it at real weight classes

Only if you assume that UFC is the only organisation that matters.

for mma, south korea is still better. for wmma, china has a champion. japan offers nothing currently.

Horiguchi is the best fighter out of all 3 of those countries currently.

I mean, has there even been a truly great fighter out of Japan outside of Sakuraba? Don't you dare say Gomi.
You forgot the guy that shared the no 1 P4P spot with Fedor for a while. The guy that had the longest winning streak in Pride history and is among the top 3 best LWs in mma history.

The Fireball kid

Horiguchi is the best fighter out of all 3 of those countries currently.

I dunno, if Current Kyoji tries to fight the best fighters from CHN/KOR it might not go well for him.

:(
