If you know me here, you I'm a big fan of Israel Adesanya. Of course I was rooting for him to murk Rob. But I always enjoyed listening to rob and his coach occasionally on Grange TV, their YouTube channel. This place wasn't short of critics shitting on Rob's performance but I can respect it. He thought what he had was enough and he went for it and fought his fight. At least he didn't go in there and hug Israel's legs, wall n stall, or be very tentative like Anthony Smith v. Jones.

Rob and Israel have different public personas but I find them both very relatable and normal for me. Anyway here is Rob reacting to the loss and the critics and people saying what he SHOULD have done.

The video is long but there is good stuff even if you only watch the first 10 minutes.

You either respect someone/something or not. There's no quantifiable 'respect' value that can increase or decrease based on random events

I can appreciate that he didn’t slow the pace down and do nothing just because it wasn’t working. He did his best, and went down literally swinging.

That isn't true. You could feel neutral about people. There are levels to respect. I might respect you because I feel you are a solid poster but it wouldn't be like the respect I had for you if I found out you sacrificed your arm to save a baby. Ok that was an extreme example.

LOL It isn't the same respect I have for my Dad.

I have a lot of respect for Whitaker because he brings it and seems like a super genuine and nice guy in his interviews. He's just likeable.

You can attempt to quantify the context, but respect is binary

Respect that he is a good dude. He fought terrible and his game plan was horrible. I think Cejudo is cringeworthy with all the trash talk but when he fought Moraes he was getting picked apart the first round. Dude bit down on the mouthpiece and got inside on Moraes and went to work. That is how you make adjustments in a fight. Don't stick with what isn't working. Whittaker fought a terrible fight.

    Respected him before and after

He's an overachiever much like Forrest Griffin, he did all he could in that fight

Im sure this sounded really good in your head but that’s not true. You can definitely respect something more or less.

    Define "more or less".

So for example you only respected Rob 58% going into the fight, but because of his attitude after the fight, you now respect him 77%?

The context just changed is all. Now you have a NEW respect for him in that context.

    Depends on the context.

As a person, the same. Seems like a down to earth good dude.

As a Champion, less. He seemed hung up on going for a KO so much he threw defense straight out the window and had a horrible gameplan for his opponent.

He has so many tools he didn’t use, and just got blown away. I think the wars with Romero got to his head and he thought he could just eat whatever was thrown at him and just head hunt. Looking for an exciting quick KO finish.

Hopefully this is his deciding moment, he goes back to the drawing board and improves and comes back a title challenger again.

If not he’s gonna be a flash in the pan and done for.

Yes he didn't get bitter like a bitch, took his licks and I'm sure will come back and thrash people. Plus he seems like a genuinely good guy

Well, we’ll have to wait and see if the brand new champ can get any defenses before we go that road.

I do respect him even more, didn't think it was possible. But he handled himself so well after the fight, and continues to do so.
