Well i want to know if anyone here has trained Muay Thai in Thailand, i am thinking about going there to train if i can afford it.

Anyone trained there?
What Area did you stay in and for how long?

what gyms did you train at?

I trained at Lanna in Chiang Mai for about 6 months...lived on-site...

the north is cooler, temp wise than the south...something to consider...Buriram is said, by the Thais, to produce the toughest fighters...

yeh i've heard of the Lanna camp...it caters for foriegners more than most.
What did your trip cost altogether?
How does it compare to training at home?
Did you work in thailand?

Any answers would be cool.

I'd also like to know.

http://www.lannamuaythai.com/

There's the website fo Lanna muay thai,

IF i had 5000£/8000$....I would go to Thailand for 1 year and train at Kaewsamrit Gym for 3 months...Tiger muay thai,Rawal Muay thai and MMA phuket all on Phuket Island, for 3 months each.

That would be the best vacation ever.

I trained at Fairtex in Pattya for 2 months...was alot of fun..fought 2 times but was hard to find another Thai my size...Was an aweseom experience....Run at 6 in the morning...3 hour training session..eat/sleep for 2 hours..than another 3 hours of training/sparring..the whole trip for 2 months cost me about 2500 american and most of that was the plane ticket

Thats great.
If i was to go,there would be no way that i could do the 2x3 hour training sessions, i would have to start out with one a day, then build up to 4 hours and then 5.

Did you learn a lot while there?...was it mostly good for your cardio or technique or both?

Like you say it is very cheap over there, and so living over there for a couple of months and training is relatively in-expensive.

Yea..about the first week of the 2x training sessions was f-ing exhausting..but your not constantly going for 2 or 3 hours..theres breaks and talking about technique.

It was all around great..my cardio improved dramatically and so did my knees and elbows. Everything is VERY inexpensive. Pattya is a hard place to train though cause its a party town...so you may wanna check out up north

As warren miller says, "If you don't do it this year, you'll be another year older when you do do it." Or somthing like that. Sure would be cool

yes my thoughts too on the people who say they'll do it someday.

how's the food and water? i think i'll buybottled water and bring probiotics for digestion and antibiotics.i do know the maid:icon_twis service is good. it'll be thailand or phillipines, muay thai or kali. learning phillipino tagalog would be more useful than learning thai for me. i'm looking at sept or oct. anyone know when the monoon season in thailand is? i can't remember.

i have heard of a lot of places for foreigners to train in thailand, but i have only heard of private arnis instruction in the pi. anyone know of any pi places for foreingers to train in kali/arnis?:icon_chee

Oxymoron?

naw probiotics are supplements usually capsules that contain benefical bacteria for your gastro-intestinal tract that help you digest food. If i had(edit) diarrhea it would ruin my first couple of days there including getting me dehydrated.

the antibiotics are something i swore i'd bring if i travel outside the us, i know thailand has very liberal pharmacies, but i will bring my own to insure i get them in an emergency.

Go for it buddy, you've nothing to lose - Apart from some money, but it'd be worth it

I trained at Fairtex at Bangplee and at a camp in Phuket which was considerably cheaper and was better for tourism.

The training at Fairtex was a bit better and Fairtex had better equipment, but the camp at Phuket worked me harder. Overall, though, they were about the same except in Phuket, there's scuba diving, elephant trekking, island hopping, deep sea fishing, etc. The atmosphere at Phuket gyms are more old school.

I spent two months there and it costed about $4000 US including training, board, food and drinks, gym fees, and a week of touring the area (which amounted to most of my money anyway). If you're just training and not going to see Thailand which is a pretty stupid thing to do (you're in Thailand, might as well learn about a new culture), it should be around $2000-$2500 for two months of training including all necessities and luxuries. Of course, this is all excluding the cost of your flight. I fortunately got my tickets for a reduced price.

Just remember a few things.

Don't carry a lot of cash on you. In Phuket and in Bangplee, there are ATM machines that are pretty current with their exchange rates.

You barter for items at the store.

PLAN AHEAD!

If you're going to stay longer than a month, you're going to have to reapply for a visa which isn't that difficult but it's necessary.

Items are a LOT cheaper in Thailand than they are in the US. I got a good pair of gloves for about $5 US. It would've costed me $40 in the states.

Work on your conditioning. If you're well-conditioned, you'll be able to train more, train harder, and as a result, become a better fighter.

I suggest you go get an open water scuba certificate. It's a lot cheaper in Thailand to get one, but it takes around four days. If you've got 4 days to spare, then go for it. I didn't get to see or ride a whale shark, but the dive sites will take your breath away.
