Has Anyone Here Ever Been KOed???

I prefer focus mitts and a belly pad to catch kicks. I’ll use Thai pads if I have to but they’re so bulky they slow down my flow we a coach. I was holding for an undersized 185er and just warming up, 5 kicks on the right end then 5 kicks on the left. He hits the 5 on the right no problem but the first left kick misses my pads and smashes me in the jaw. I remember i kept my feet under me but it whipped my head back. when I looked up again I saw the fighter and his wife (also a fighter) staring at me in horror and my first thought was, “oh hey! Austin’s here!” Then I realized I was padded up, and then I put 2 and 2 together.

Yep. Been knocked out twice. Both in my early twenties, before i'd learned that it was better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Alcohol and peacemaking don't mix.

Now obviously i'm still alive lol, but i could have easily been dead. the last instance was of me being sucker punched dead in the mouth at 23 outside a bar. And literally i only vaguely remember the dudes fist flying towards my face, then NOTHING. BLANK.

Then i remember waking up, what i assume was sometime later, and staggering on my feet and muttering for help lol. Then it went to black again. Then the next thing i remember i was waking up with my buddy and whoever else looking over me, asking me if i was alright. Then i next remember being in the Emergency Room.

My takeaway was: Being sucker punched and knocked the fuck out doesn't feel good, lol. It doesn't particularly hurt, mind you, at least until you have to see the dentist, but it's clearly damaging as i don't remember 75-90% of the shot that preceded and followed the event (brain damage). It's not something i'd ever want to go through again. And mind you, i've done plenty of training and sparring in boxing since my early mid-20's, so i wasn't and am not a neophyte or easy mark. But in the streets, neither one of those two things guarantees that you won't be the victim of a one shot hitter-quitter.

And fwiw (the post mortem) : My chins never been the same since. Thankfully i've got some degree of training, skill, and the common sense to not get into drunken altercations. And i suppose being 40 years old is part of that, but if i ever got touched with a solid punch to the chin/jaw again, i'd fold like a cheap fucking lawn chair.. Chuck Liddell/RJJ/David Price.

Never KO'd, but got dropped sparring before.. but got up right away.

Oddly enough, it's seems the worst shots I've taken were during sparring, never when I actually fought.

Granted I've only boxed so it's a lot harder to get KO'd when being punched with 12 or 14 oz gloves on.

Coming to consciousness is a funny thing

The first time I was choked out I dreamed I was on a roller coaster, then I saw my coach over me, and I thought, "Why is Dave in my bedroom?"

Then I realized what happened

Anyone who throws headkick in sparring, let alone a spinning hook kick, is a fuckin ass.

It's almost impossible to control even if you're wonderboy. It can do serious damage.

I have been drop to the body 2 times in my life. I got flash knockdowned once because I ran straight into a right hand when I started MT.

I've had several concussion but never was actually ko'd in martial arts. I did hit my head on the concrete while skateboarding when I was young. I got up an fell down a few seconds later doing the stanky leg.

I throw headkicks all the time over the last ten years. I throw them on beginners and professionals. I've never once come close to injuring or knocking out a sparring partner. Not hard to control.

In high school I got knocked out doing that American Gladiator joust thing where they try and knock each other off their pads with the sticks. My friend knocked me off my pad with a hard shot to the back of the head, then thought it would be funny to chase me around with his stick and hit me a few more times. He legit knocked me out. Those damn things have some impact lol. I just remember regaining consciousness to him standing over me thinking it was the funniest thing ever haha. Fun times

I’ve done a decent amount of sparring. Never been knocked out. Had a rib get cracked with a body shot though. Definitely a legitimate knock down. Worst pain ever. Took over a month for the pain to go away. Done by a professional lol https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/579345

I’ve had my legs disappear on me for a split second but that’s it.

I’ve noticed there’s different kinds of hurt in boxing to the head. There’s the shots that daze and you feel for a while, make your legs a bit heavy and everything woozy. Then there’s the flash shots that skip time for a split second but you instantly recover. One of those flash shots is what made me do a little dance one time but a 2 seconds later I was fully recovered as if I was never hit

No but one time I went to a restaurant that offered these really crazy hot wings

They were called suicide wings and you had to sign a waiver to eat them

Me and my buddy drink all the beers to put the fire out

We walked around town screaming in agony that night

Judging by the above comments this was probably moved from the dogshit UFC forum.

And yeah my last pro fight (8 years ago) I was pretty much out. Definitely didn’t fit the bill of “intelligently defending” myself. The guy would later go on to lose to Clay Guida and test positive for steroids multiple, multiple times. Kind of a POS.

TKO'd once in the few fights I had.

Knocked out in a car accident.

Did you get hit by a Ford Escort?
I was driving a van, for work that I used to do on weekends while in university.

Long story short the van flipped and it is a miracle that no one died.

Never been knocked out in sparring but I botched a weed brownie recipe once by not using enough butter

I started freaking out, ran outside and jumped head first into the drivers side window of my truck trying to get inside and knocked myself unconscious

I had to explain the next time I went to train why I had a huge knot on my head

0-1 against a ford explorer
