Complete Kickboxing: The Fighter's Ultimate Guide to Techniques, Concepts and Strategy for Sparring and Competition (Paperback)
by Martina Sprague (Author), Keith Livingston (Author)

if anyone has can you let me know how it is?

really?, i've never thought of striking as being something you can learn effectivelly with a book, unlike grappling, i think striking is something you must learn from a coach or class, but is there something im misssing

I agree, Grappling can be learned from a Book (not well but its possible) Striking is not the same

hmm. I would think it would be the other way around. This might be because I am a grappler, and can't possibly imagine a person really learning grappling unless its hands on. I know about the intricacies of grappling that are virtually impossible to explain unless they are actually demonstated on you. I am just getting into striking, so I don't know all the little things about striking yet, so to me, it seems more straight forward and simple. Everybody probably thinks their own art is the most complex.

I also think it's easier to learn striking from a book than grappling. There are way too many nuances to the ground game that most books don't cover.

+1 it's possible to learn technique and how to put combos together from a book but it's a completely different in alive situation and this is true for both striking and grappling.

wouldn't it be more of a supplement to training? what about sparring with people that have equal experience?

Learning directly from a book is a bad idea in my opinion, but they can be very helpful supplements. If you're not doing grappling/striking in real life, it's a lot different.
