Has anyone else become disillusioned with MMA lately?

it does feel like ever since the move to ESPN that the UFC has gone down the route of boxing....

Cards nowadays are shit. UFC 246 had one good fight and that lasted 40 seconds. UFC 247 only had Jones v Reyes. Even UFC London which I was thinking of going to has ONE good fight.
Exact reason I’m not going to it, dead card... seeing too many of them these days.

With Yoel and possibly Aldo getting title shots. Rankings are becoming irrelevant. Ya I am. Plus more cards and less quality imo.

It's a pretty shitty product in general now, it's been steadily declining for years.

Some of these PPVS are absolutely garbage. Do people really pay $70 for one, MAYBE two good fights?

Also, MMA judging and scoring need a total overhaul. The system in place is clearly not working. Horrible scorecards don't even shock me anymore. I have very low expectations for MMA judging.
At this point when a shitty scorecard is read, my reaction is something like

baby.gif

(Rogan and Cruz said that they saw one judge earlier in the evening not even watching the Andrea Lee fight for some 30seconds at a time, that's *inexcusable*).

Dana White watching Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz while two UFC heavyweights fight in a main event

I fell asleep before the main event and had to watch it the next day.

Almost the same happened for the Conor event but I did manage to catch that one live. For me it's mainly the watered down cards and the WMMA being shoved down our throats.

These feelings come and go.

Many probably felt the same way when GSP and Anderson were fighting lackluster contenders, or at times where you had the same fights repeating and there felt like there was no progress in a division.

Then suddenly; whomp, a year goes by and you have a ton of interesting prospects and new people in the top 5, and it all becomes interesting again.

I agree, I don't know what exactly it is for me but every year I have less interest, don't get me wrong we have gotten so many good fights but sometimes I feel like its maybe the same thing and the same BS(Dana, Conor, Usada, etc.) over and over again that is getting stale and repetitive

I havent followed the UFC in years.

I follow Sherdog.

Havent watched an actual full UFC card or tv show in a long time; the golden era is over.

Maybe im a filthy casual, but have followed mma since Vale tudo, UFC 1 days.

Its a commercialised shitshow nowadays.

They keep making garbage cards with 1 good fight on the top to sell the whole thing. It's stupid. They need to make a minor league, have weekly cards with no big names and let the no-names on good streaks headline

Ummmm.... isn’t this what the fight nights are??

I still love UFC and MMA but holy shit the blatant allowance of fighters eye poking and terrible judging is making me sour

Been following the sport pretty much since the UFC started as I was heavily into the Japan shootwrestling scene like Rings, Pancrase & UWFi. But right now I'm struggling to maintain an interest in the sport , be it severely watered down cards, inept judges or rankings having very little input on who actually gets title fights etc. Not saying this is all necessarily a new thing but just feels like its getting worse.

I still catch the cards but find I'm skipping certain fights I have no interest in, and this is a guy who previously sat through Dan Severen's classics with Shamrock & Kimo!!!

Not mma per se but with all the BS that sorounds it, yes. Bad judging, matchmaking, commentary bias etc etc etc

Only thing that's really bothered me is how watered down the cards have become. It use to be bad but now it's even worse under ESPN. I look at PPV cards nowadays and am surprised when I see a co-main event that im interested in . truly sad and disappointing when you think back to how often the UFC used to stack their cards.

When I looked up Juan Adams, I was utterly stunned he’s co main with a 2-1 ufc record. I guess he got the big spot because he “fought” hardy and they wanted to reward him.

It irks me more than irrelevant co main wmma fights because there’s no reason for it. I understand they are trying to make wmma cool. Wtf is the benefit of putting two nobodies who haven’t performed well in the ufc in a co main wtf

Dana White watching Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz while two UFC heavyweights fight in a main event

Dana is not a PAID JUDGE who is HIRED to watch every single SECOND of the fight and give your professional adjudication wighing into account all the strikes, kicks / punches / take-downs etc etc etc etc in the fight and then give a professional informed and correct score !!!!!!!!!!

doesn't matter one tiny bit what the fuck Dana is doing during the fight. Come on man, use your brain FFS.

Dana is the face of UFC

Irrelevant to the OUTCOME of teh fight!!! He's not employed to judge who won. Can you not see that really really really basic fact?? THE JUDGES ARE EMPLOYED TO WATCH AND SCORE IT, Dana can go and chat up a woman or play video games, it doesn't affect the fight, he is essentially just a spectator.

I think they should be fights every weekend but only with the new unknown fighters and stack the ppv with the top 15 more well known stars of the sport.

Sorry but what Dana did is many times more worse.

Dana is paid to make the UFC look good & and that was just embarrassing.
