Im trying to compile a list a cancelled fights in UFC in 2017 as compared to Boxing and Kickboxing.

I wonder why UFC seems to be the worst sport when it comes to fighter injuries, fighters failing drug tests, or fighters not being able to make weight.

This is crushing the ufc. It makes the ufc look like an amateur organization. I find it ironic that when the UFC started trying to go more professional in the recent years, more fights have been cancelled than ever.

At some point, do the fighters need to be held responsible for all of this? Not only for the fans, but for their opponents who in some cases don't get paid if they don't have a fight.

Should fighters be punished for missing weight...which is a breach of contract?

Perhaps they need to be babysat in training, and be forced to limit their training in the week or 2 weeks leading up to the fight, so they don't get injured and ruin the events.

same goes for getting sick, but I think that needs more leeway.

Let's be realistic please.

To address the topic I think the OP has it completely wrong. Punishing fighters isn't the way IMO. Many fighters have said that taking chances with fighting injured or not at 100% makes dropping out the better choice. Fighters don't make enough for actually fighting as compared to what they make "Being on the UFC roster." I suspect that a guy like Jimmy Rivera as an example makes more money from his own business of owning an Academy specifically a Tiger Schulmann Academy. How many more students register for an academy of a "UFC Fighter" vs just a regular academy? How much more would people pay to go to a seminar for BJJ run by Damien Maia vs Just Some Guy with a black belt? How much more in demand is Mike Bisping for public appearances as UFC Middleweight champion vs Mike Bisping UFC fighter vs Mike Bisping guy who was never on tv. If mike were paid millions to defend and thousands to make appearances he would be trying to rack up defences. Reality is while he is paid well he makes more overall holding on to it and making the rounds.

If a fighter misses weight, he should get a one point deduction for the first round in addition to the 20% hit to his purse.

Losing 1 out of 2-3 paydays a year is bad enough punishment, they still paid to prepare and do a camp...losing money in the process. When did this become a thing where people believe fighters pull out on purpose?
