Harlan Ellison(Sci-Fi Writer) dead at 84.

Acknowledgment to the works of Harlan Ellison.

Sad.

Have to admit I thought he died years ago, though.

This is probably just part of his lawsuit against god for breach of contract.

GODSPEED, YOU ANGRY LITTLE MAN.

"RIP... you magnificent bastard," said the Ticktockman.

Watch, as soon as James Cameron admits that he stole all that stuff for Terminator from a bunch of old Outer Limits episodes which Harlan wrote, that magnificent bastard is going to spring right out of his grave and sue him for all he's worth.

I have no mouth but I must lol.

Just heard. Won't say RIP for this guy, he should be allowed to rant and kick up all the fuss he can.

Fuck. The greats of my younger days are dropping like flies these past few years.

Sad to hear that. RIP.
Author of my favorite Star Trek episode. Only episode I think where Kirk ever swore. And rightfully so.

Saw that earlier, he was a pioneer much like Phillip K. Dick was, also a good friend of Stan Lee's and did solid work in novels, magazines, comics, and tv.

"The whimper of whipped dogs" was very influential while I was growing up. Fuck the horde.

RIP you old curmudgeon, you.

They actually changed so much of his script that he went crazy on roddenberry

I am surprised there are not more comments in this thread...this man is/was the poster child for 99.99999999% of the posters in Gayberry...

Heh, and that version was said to be far less depressing than his original draft.

Yeh it was plenty sad for me. Lol
I remember Nimoy decades ago saying it was his favorite episode as well.

RIP

Ashamed to say I am not as familiar with his written work as with shows based on it. Someone give me a reading list, stat.

They're showing up until the check clears.

Just watching back this episode for sentimental sake. It's interesting this plot.

One of the greatest rules in life is not to contaminate other worlds (they flew Cassini into Saturn, as not to potentially contaminate the orbiting moons).

If you get sent to the past, you can't contaminate that time/world with your knowledge of the future, or you'll change it's history. Biggest no-no of all time.

So Bones has basically unintentionally violated this rule - gone into the past - they must correct it.

Kirk says to the others 'if you think you've waited long enough, each of you must go into the past to try to get him, if not, you'll be happy in a past life". (essentially)

So Kirk's solution was to fix this one catastrophe of Bones being in the past and potential to 'f up their history and change it - I'm going to send all of you contaminates into the past as well, likely most of you won't find Bones, and will exponentially, as a contaminate, 'f up the history even more".

I don't know. <45>

I wonder if Harlan considered this, wanted it that way, or this is one of the issues he had with the script.

Just thought that was interesting writing.

Kirk's like... well if we don't find Bones... 'f it! We'll really screw up earth history even more for sure!
