Hardest instrument to learn to play good

Ezy as molasses !!! Violins are the hardest instruments to play. I know, at age 5, before turning to the piano, my dad bought me a violin and my violin teacher said : no way son, turn to the piano ....she was right. Piano playing is pretty difficult but nowhere near as difficult as the violin or other string instruments :):)

I can only play guitar (well and bass a bit), i found it difficult for years. Still hard but at least I can hear melody now.

Personally, string instruments are impenetrable for me. I'm great at picking strings, but putting it together with notes feels impossible. My brain knows where the fingers are supposed to go, but my left hand is all "derr...". Drums and keys come way more naturally to me. Some wind instruments are really weird, too. They seem so easy.

Never tried the violin, but that seems like a real bitch.

i can play a basic beat with drums but anything complex I'm fucked, guys like Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy blow my mind tbh.

I know that unless you harden your fingertips like crazy, you will never play a single string / note 🎵 🎵 🎵 🎵 🎵:):)

For sure. That was the hardest thing when I started playing, steel string acoustic, needed to build up the callouses on the fingertips. Now I play every day so it's not an issue of course.

I disagree with this, but here is my all time favorite cello recording by Pablo Casals

You should read stories about young Liszt hearing Paganin and resolving to become his pianistic equal...and then totally surpassing him and becoming the first ever rockstar in the world. Splitting hairs here tho...there are a lot of things you can do on the 88 that its literally impossible to even attempt on the viloin or cello.

😃 Sure

Anyway here is an awesome clip of the Beethoven Triple Concerto featuring Richter (the 1B to Horowitz), Rostropovich on cello, and Oistrakh (my favorite violinist).

I dunno how to put the specific thing for a timestamp. The part I am referring to starts about 26 minutes, when the 3 of them trade back and forth

Are drums a you either can or can’t type of instrument ? Having ur brain tell appendages to do 4 different things isnt something ive ever been able to learn albeit I haven’t tried or practiced that hard at drums
No. Like any other instrument, polyrhythms can be learned (which is what I think you are talking about) . It ain't easy, of course, but very rewarding once you figure it out

A wise man once said:" musical instruments were created by the gods and given to human mortals to use and cherish" :):)

I mean, the hardest instrument to learn is the one that's furthest from what you know. My background is violin and guitar, so bass, mandolin, and ukulele were easy to grasp the basics of. On the other hand, when I tried teaching myself trombone, I was completely lost, and I imagine that'd be the case with any brass or woodwind.

If I had to guess what would be the hardest for an absolute beginner to learn though, I'd say piano. It's the king of instruments imo. Setting aside how hard mastering left/ right hand independence is, it's just so full of possibilities that it seems impossible not to get lost. It's why pianists have such a massive edge over other musicians when it comes to learning music theory: they kinda just have to.

Damn, good post, though i disagree. I think the piano is by far the most complex to master, but I ain't gonna lie...I'd probably fall out my chair starting off trying to get a note out of the trombone or bow a stringed instrument.

I agree that it varies a lot from person to person (I'm also hopeless on brass instruments), but I hold with my opinion that, for most beginners, piano is the hardest.
