I heard it's hard to combine the two. Would I be able to pull it off? The kicking mechanics seem to be very different. Maybe I could take only the clinch and punching from MT and keep TKD kicks?

I've not tried, but from what I've seen the mechanics of either are not so ridiculously different. At least one former TKD guy in Florida by way of Korea has combined the two into a blended style he's been teaching in Florida which I understand is quite popular.

If you are just going to add punches maybe you should just take Boxing.

That is your exact comment. Thats why I said you should take Boxing. MT isn't known for their punches. thats why alot of MT gyms have added Boxing trainers to their gyms.

This is what I'm doing, and I think it's good.

Boxing clinch is not as good as MT clinch, though, nothing compares here.

So if you go this route, you should at least cross train with some MT guys to learn some good escapes from the Muay Thai clinch.

what the fuck?? I said I wanted to learn clinch and low kicks too which TKD doesn't have . Are you arguing with me over what I said?

youll have a completley different stance, which in turn will affect the way you th row your kicks. I see Muay thai throwing you off your tkd game more than tkd throwing you off your muay thai game. I see the two going well together.

Just saying what was in your original post. Nothing was said about low kicks. You said you wanted to keep TKD kicks but use clinch and boxing from MT. Careful you don't want to get banned again do you?

Please elaborate.

TKD for the most part is fairly liner. the reason being? you cant kick to the back and you dont need to punch.

hence the your standing shoulder to shoulder for the most.

Mt your fighting more square. Basicly both shoulders are facing forward, one will lead slightly more but your still fighting fairly square.

Thats takes a big ajustment, also if your not used to the new fighting stances where you have to punch your goning to find your traps and shoulders are going to be really tired and sore, because in TKD your hands dont need to be as high all the time and it'll take a bit of time for your body to adjust.

If you box it's the same story, your going to find your going to keep forgeting to tuck your chin into your leading shoulder and you'll be giving up your chin all the time.

The adjustment isnt hard from my personal experience, just recognize it's another art form. to be honest i picked it up in a few classes. TKD produces a great base to build MMA from, your flexible, cardio is high, timing is down, and you understand tempo and foundumental in ring strategies.

However, some tkd elements will stick in your training forever, i find most pure MT guys will say or ask "you tkd before right?" but no body cares to be honest if you can hit hard.

It isnt hard its just to different ideas on kicking IMHO take the side kick and hook kick and add MT round kicks to the legs, body and head not to mention the thai clinch and punching, and your best bet as far as stance goes the MT stance is much more effective and is the number 1 used stance in mma.
