How many of you gents do some sort of handstand training or balancing? Handstand push ups against the wall? Does anybody do free standing work with them?

I try, lol. I have an extremely hard time balancing (long-legged, very bottom-heavy, I think). But I'll keep working. I want to be able to do freestanding handstand push-ups for reps.

I just want to walk on my hands. I've been trying, but since I hurt my ankle I stopped cause I don't want to fall and make it worse. I don't know what it is, but I really want to do it.

I have enough trouble walking.

If I was to reverse things, chaos would be the result.

But at least people would think you're the man in all of your chaos.

I went to the local high school track yesterday and did about 3/8 of a lap. Which wasn't too good of an idea because the track is made for shoes and accordingly had some gravel crap on it that cut my hands up pretty good. No, I wasn't smart enough to stop at the time.

If you guys ever train handstands enough, try walking up a set of stairs while doing it. One of the most INTENSE shoulder and core exercises that you will ever do. I've been doing them for around 4 years now. If you have any questions I could try to help you out with technique and whatnot...

Wasn't there some guy that went by handstands all the way up the Empire State building?

I remember see some story about it.

By the end his ends were bleeding. (a lot)

How far along are you? Able to kick up to a handstand against the wall?

So far, I can kick up to a handstand against the wall. I would like to be able to walk on my hands, and later do push-ups.

I have trouble just standing straight up on my hands and maintaining balance. One thing I do to practice a little balance is to start out with my head on the floor and put my knees on my elbows then raise my legs straight up. I don't know if I described that right. Maybe somebody knows what I'm talking about.

Have any other suggestions on ways to practice balance?

Sounds like you're doing the tripod stance. Which is head and hands on the ground forming a triangle, hence the tripod. I'll tell you this though. It is easier to walk on your hands than it is to stand in one place and balance. So you can either just practice walking for a bit to build strength and doing timed holds against the wall. Work up to atleast a minute.

That way you'll have the strength to practice free stands without your muscles giving out too quickly. Here's a tutorial with pictures that will help you out a lot http://www.beastskills.com/Handstand.htm

Or this one

Oh and one final thought for now. Be sure to learn how to fall from a handstand. I did judo since a young age so rolling out of one wasn't difficult. But if you haven't done any rolling, you might want to practice doing it. For free standing ones, when you overbalance and fall towards the ground where your back would land first. It's pretty painful if you just fall over and slam into the ground.

I recommend just turning out of it though. He discusses it in the beastskills tutorial about halfway down.

I wanna walk on my hands, how should i get my balance down i can hold a handtand for like 3sec

Like any other skill... You could PRACTICE it! And read through the links I posted. They have pictures and better step by step progression in them than I care (or could do) to write out. But if they don't address anything in there you are having trouble with I'll see if I can help you.

I'm working on more handstand stuff at the moment, I just built some parallettes and I'm platying around on them. I have trouble doing unsupported handstands, partly because I have to do them on my knuckles (royally screwed left wrist, won't bend back far enough to put weight on my palm).

Going from an L-sit to a handstand is a very fun little skill to practice.

Parallettes are definitely the way to go if you have problems bending your wrists. Or you could try handstands on your knuckles!

The only problem with the knuckle stance is that it will be harder to balance, because you can't really use finger pressure.
