Well to start with of course the history of the conflict goes back far beyond Oct 7th and indeed many previous Israeli military actions in Gaza within the last 20 years killed over a thousand civilians.

Beyond that though even the claim that "they started it" really is not a legal or a moral justification is it? especially if you go on to kill probably hundreds of times more civilians.

Again it comes back to the reality that I and many in this thread are absolutely critical of Hamas, the issue is you are NOT critical of the Israelis, you've spent about 18 months now basically defending the killing of tens possible hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Claiming to be critical of Hamas while insisting Israel continue to coexist with them does nothing. It’s completely empty. Hamas is bad but please leave them alone!!

Gaza and the people of Gaza have no chance at a better future as long as Hamas is allowed to coexist and rule Gaza. And they aren’t going anywhere on their own.

I can criticize settler violence or individual acts of their military. But the mission is just.

We've seen now that multiple claims that Hamas were operating military bases out of hospitals were disprooven and were dealing with the destruction of entire cities, every building destroyed for miles around. I actually think this was Hama's goal from the beginning and they succeeded. World opinion of Israel is in the dumpster fire.

They of course knew they couldn't beat Israel militarily so they wanted to initiate exactly this sort of heavy handed response. Hamas does not give a fuck about innocent civilians killed. They just wanted to make Israel international pariahs.

Before 10/7, Israel was approaching official peace deals with all it's Arab neighbors while they were still slowly squeezing Palestinians and killing them. Now all their Arab neighbors hate them.
