Master Chief is getting a facelift with an HD collection of his exploits. We've learned that Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 are being collected in a Master Chief-focused HD remaster coming from Microsoft. Our sources say that the set will zero in on Halo's most famous soldier to refresh audience's memories ahead of Halo 5: Guardians' release, so curiosities like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach likely won't be a part of the package. The game's developer is unknown at this point, but considering that Saber Interactive handled Combat Evolved Anniversary and is also working on an unannounced Xbox One project, the team is a likely suspect. Also unclear are plans for digital distribution, resolution and frame-rate (Microsoft bragged that that the next Halo will run at a "blistering" 60fps), piecemeal releases, or if the games will surface on other platforms as well (PC, anyone?).

Microsoft has gone on record saying that it would love to have Halo release more than once every three years. It's used different developers to fill that task since, but we're still pushing two years since Halo 4 launched. To commemorate the first game's 10th birthday, Microsoft released Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary for the Xbox 360, which served as a stop-gap for the 343 Industries-developed Halo 4; there's precedent for this sort of thing. This remake makes a lot of sense for Redmond for a couple of different reasons: it satisfies the more-frequent release desire and it helps fans get caught up on the story. It also gives them the chance to re-experience some of the best console shooters with better looks and sound -- everyone wins!

We reached out for official word from Microsoft and are waiting to hear back, but we're not expecting much beyond the usual, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation."

Good to hear. I wish Reach was apart of the package as well, it had the best campaign, next to Halo1's.

Well we're due for an anniversary version of the second one anyhow.

So there is going to be another remake of the first game ?

That's weird. Also, why the hell would they remake 4 the shit came out less then 2 years ago

Last of us on PS4 is even worse than that? (Or least pretty much the same time wise)

I'm sure it will be the same thing with Halo 4. Better visuals, new achievements and the ability to ataully play Halo 4 on your Xbox One. Great multiplayer game, good news for Xbox One owners.

3 if my favorite, might consider getting a One for this. (And Halo 5 of course)

Sounds awesome. Too bad I switched camps this year. Halo go me back into gaming. Still, I cannot see getting a 1 for this alone.

Last of us came out the same year as the PS4, it should have been next gen to begin with. Anyways, seeing as how they are planning to do that to build up the release of 5, I can't imagine there being a lot of people that haven't played 4 very recently and would be demanding it right before the release of a new one that would take up their attention

Such a big mistake making Halo an exclusive after 2.

I'm honestly not really even a Halo fan but I hope this does well so Rockstar and Nintendo start remastering their older masterpieces. Nintendo is already off to a good start with Wind Waker HD and R* released a somewhat updated version of San Andreas for mobile platforms. Actually I'd kind of like a lot of classic games to be remastered with today's technology.

Yeah I'd love to play GTA 3 / Vice City + Bully on the current gen systems

As for the Halo bundle, I am feeling a bit Halo'd out after playing through 1-4 + ODST + Reach.

#2 was the ultimate in the series for me I found 3 felt like it was missing something, 4 is highly overrated for me. Reach was decent (Last Bungie Halo I believe) and I couldn't get into ODST at all.

Its still a great series and recommend it to all gamers (even though it looks like I am ripping it to shreds) this is great news for XB1 owners

Halo 3 is the best still. If they let you play online it will be be worth the price of admission.

I doubt they would let you play it online. It wouldn't surprise me if they just released maps from the old games for halo 5 in some form of dlc.

I would love a full remaster of halo 2 with the multiplayer included myself. I don't really see the need to remaster 3 and 4 though, at least at this time .
