Check out the following video clip; it is a sneak preview of the Dynamic Half Guard DVD that I will be releasing in 2 or 3 weeks (mid November). I have uploaded it to both Youtube and Google video, so please feel free to view it, and rate it, at either location.

This drill is important because it helps you develop the leg and hip mobility to switch between different half guard positions. Once you master this drill you can apply the movements to all half guard leg positions, and to mobility on the ground in general.

Very cool drill. I'm looking forward to the dvd. I find myself playing a lot of DLR guard these days, and half guard integrates so nicely with that ...

hell yea 1/2 guard dvd!!!! go stephan!!! I have alwasy begged youf or a half guard dvd! hope it's focusing on the 1/2 guard rather than passing/

Blanko - the focus of this DVD is entirely on the half guard bottom position. I do (quickly) show some passes and submissions from the top, but it is only to show the counters that the bottom guy might want to use

I like that drill..I especially have been putting the half butterfly hook to make for more of a dynamic half guard, sweeps/reversals etc..

my man!!!

Seriously hearing about this vid makes me sexually aroused.

In a good way...;)

Amazing, I've been finding myself in Half Guard way too often lately... hopefully this will help me out a bit.

Blanko asked "is it gi or no gi?"

This video, like all my others, has a no-gi focus because nearly everything you can do no-gi you can do with the gi, but not the other way around. I train in both gi and no-gi, but I like these two games to resemble each other as much as possible, since I don't have the time to develop two entirely different games.

I do present some gi-only options in the DVD, but then usually also discuss what to do if you if you don't have a gi. The most extreme example of that is the sitting guard section - the sitting guard has long been BJJ's answer when the guy stands up in your half guard, but it is difficult to pull off most sitting guard techniques without the gi. That is why I then do a detailed presentation on what I call the 'instep guard' which builds on the sitting guard but works equally well in a gi or no-gi context.

Anyone who is new to Sherdog or is not familiar with Stephan's work:

Buy something from Stephan Kesting or Grapplearts. Right now. Grappling Drills and Denis Kang's "My MMA" are literally setting a new foundation for me and will be carrying me through my first MMA fight.

Stephan - looking forward to the release of this. I would love to see something else MMA-specific come out like Denis' DVD. Thanks for all the hard work and can't wait to check it out!
